There are simply not enough Mk2 Build/Project threads

Featured Replies

Given that we now have cars out of warranty, we only have Fredde (confide) left who is seemingly still plugging away admirably at his vRS, 32KofData EDIT*** AND BRIMMA's EXCELLENT Mk2 vRS TDI Estate project :) . The early projects from Ap, VRS-Powered and now Sy's long runner have ended. The build section is rammed with Mk1's.

......so I'm thinking maybe I should do one.........:)

My question is, given that I have posted up on a fair few of my mods already, is it worth it. I certainly have more plans for the car albeit the winter months might be quieter for tinkering. Would anyone even read it?

I have committed to the Spring action day 2014 at Combe so would in essence be prepping the car to hopefully bring plenty of smiles then. This happily should coincide with my b'day more or less.

crack on :)

There's been a few on here that have caught my eye and I've spent ages reading through every post and looking at every picture. Having the mk2 myself I would most definitely be interested.

Well hopefully if I collect all my stuff together in one thread then maybe others will be inspired to do the same.

I would follow with interest!

Well, I'm off to see the good people at Awesome GTI tomorrow, so once I have the thread caught up to my most recent mods I should have some further "developments" :)

Thanks  :)

Is it limited to Mk2 vRSs, or can anyone play?

(I've already done a basic thread on mine)

Unlike my goodself, this is not at all limited :) sincere apologies to Monte, Elegance, Sport and other Mk2 model owners.

Quite frankly shame on anyone that is not aware of the white mk2 formerly 'Monster' estate

Please pop up a link Bryan and educate those in this forum who are in the dark.

They are still a bit too valuable to ruin with big wheels and crazy suspension setups at the moment, when they descended to the level that the mk1 fabia has you will see loads of project cars pop up.

Quite possibly the lack of mk2 project/build threads is probably related to the fact that most performance enthusiasts go for the VRS model and they already come with a quite highly stressed engine compared to the older model.

Both Sy and VRS Powered had engine issues at relatively low milages/ages.

Yes, Sy's was highly tuned over stock, but Powered's wasn't.

Maybe it's put people off?

And as Tom just said, they aren't cheap enough yet for people to be happy hammering away.

Before anyone asks, ITG is the best induction kit! With that off my chest got for it. I enjoyed the car a lot, but it had to go as I was starting Uni and it drank a lot of petrol.

Only thing I really regret was not getting it mapped to stage 2 before getting shot of it to see how fast it really could of gone on my super sticky race tyres.

I understand what you are saying Boss of the Foxes but...amongst other things I am a blinkered eternal optimist, mostly, sometimes.......

Cars that are out of warranty to my addled brain should have gone wrong by now, mine included, if they were going to. Believe both Sy and VRS Powered tuned new cars, my belief being that these would have gone wrong anyway, or at least that's how I justify things. Also if you ask Sy he believes his car's issues are mostly explainable by the step to Stage 3 and up until then had little issue and he ran his as a daily at stage 2 after reverting, again I believe without issue. VRS Powered ran a tmc tuning box and did quite a few quarter mile races, two things that to my mind wouldn't help, TMC delivers power but the dyno graphs seem sketchy when you see how they do it, far less cultured than a good map, I would think at least. I also think that this car demands things to be done right, I.E no simple quick route to stage 2, uprated intercooler, intake and other supporting mods to keep temps down seem vital.

Surely at 40k miles my car is in the prime of it's life for tuning, out of warranty yet I shouldn't be spending all my pennies just keeping it running replacing standard parts as still in very good nick at only three years old.

.................currently hopes that noone is copying and pasting this post in a few short months when it all bites me in the bum as I she'll out for a new engine :/

Keeping tabs on SCN as well as Briskie there seem to be plenty of cars running software problem free and let's not forget we don't even have to touch the engine to transform the car through handling braking and other mods. One of my favourite Mk2 threads is from 32kofdata and most of the stuff I liked had nothing to do with engine tuning.

Let's keep it up beat eh?

Nice to have one of the old guard join us. I have an ITG :)

Hopefully Ap, you can live vicariously though me as long term I would love to hit a meaty Stage 2.

Hope Uni is going well for you, thanks for the thread!

Has my thread left a void then lol.

I would agree that if your over 40-60k then you probably have a good egg.  But i think my pistons would have gone, even if stock.  I just think the tuning helped it arrive earlier.  My stage 3 output on th low boost was also reliable, consistent and problem free, but the problem IMO was that the turbo wasnt even running close to its optimum output because running the higher boost equated to issues, so is a waste of money going stage 3 IMO unless these issues are addressed which of course = ££££. Mine did have a smoke issue with stage 2 software on the Shark map which disappeared when moving to the Jabba and APR software.  The steering issue, well that might have been a multitude of different causes, from the maxed out XDS settings, having lowering springs/bushes, maybe the bigger brakes or using it on track, il l never know what the issue was now.  ( It had 2 new steering racks, 2 new steering pumps and 2 new steering angle sensors and the issue never went!!!)

Hopefully my thread or experience hasnt put peope off.

I would actively recommend people against pushing past stage 2.  For me stage 2 was the perfect setup, but i got power hungry and went for more power before i realized how well it was setup before hand.  Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

For me the perfect setup on the car was:

ITG Intake, Vibratechniks engine mounts, Poly bushes, VWR springs, Intercooler/radiator, Downpipe c/w stock cat back, Big brake kit and ARBs combined with a stage 2 remap (APR or Jabba are my recommendations)

What i wouldnt do again is the Hybrid turbo/stage 3 setup or the Water Meth injection.

I am only half way through my warranty and still undecided as to whether to keep my Monte (unsure of where I'll be, what journeys I'll be driving in six month's time).

If I end up keeping it beyond the warranty (June 2015), then I would be game to improve the Monte.  The 30bhp increase looks good, I like OZ Superturismo wheels (reminds me of the halcyon days of BTCC with Volvo 850Rs and John Cleland in a Cavalier GSI), maybe better lights...

But it is all pipe dream stuff, like my 911 is, until things firm up...and I am absolutely NOT allowed to have firm plans.  The Boss says so...

I have got definite ideas and plans, but still have finance on the car, so don't know whether to wait for that to finish before I start meddling!

Hey guys :D just been reading through the forum and this thread :). I have the same concerns with my 1.4TSI Ibiza FR 150 (same engine as the VRS) just a lower map on it :P.

I have read horror stories on this forum and on seatcupra.net aswell regarding these engines, but from what ive seen its on models prior a certain date and then changes were made apparently.

Touch wood I've not had a problem and I've got vRSy's VWR Intake now installed :P thanks again mate.

But im still nervous about mapping the engine not because of the warranty so much, but incase the isssues are just taking there time to rear their ugly heads, although saying that the 1st service was recently done and no issues found just a software update for the DSG box.

I would go for stage 2 straight off. I "wasted" £300 on the TMC. while it was stage1 in a box its not that much cheaper than a remap.

If you're gonna be racing it, 1/4 or track days the rear weights have to go and I'd look at lighter wheels, but before all that for stage 2 you need the better turbo backed exhaust and preferable a bigger intercooler. I'm sure you are aware of this already reading through the build threads.

Drop some wedge on a remap and the exhaust first and go straight to stage 2. unless you can wing some kind of deal with the tuner to get you to stage 2 for free if you buy stage 1 now and tell them you'll let them carry out the work for installing stuff so they get more business.

Thats if you are out of warrenty.... Skoda will happily charge you for a new engine and labour costs if you've stuck a big ass turbo on and it drinks oil by the bucket haha! ;)

Thats me though, but I wouldnt buy one of these cars again. I think 1.4l is just asking too much when your pushing ~220bhp. I think ford and renault have gone the right way with that extra 200cc to stop running it at full pelt all the time.

Very quick and fun, even at stage 1 but they do have their big downfalls. I'll be interested to see what you get up too..

Then again maybe I just ragged mines a bit too much?

Did I mention that I took a little trip to Awesome GTI this morning? :notme:

Hang on, are they an APR Dealer  , don't APR do free step ups from Stage 1 to Stage 2??

All of the above is pure conjecture, but high possiblity of updates to follow.

..........reminds me to get my build thread up to date. B)

Hi Tom,

Missed your response.

What do you mean when you say ruin? Is this throwing on some 19's and low-as-can-go coilovers? Not really the direction I am looking at, might be something for others to 'appreciate' I really like OEM+

Interesting nugget of info

I am 32 (not the interesting part) I have four years no claim (would be more but a serial company car driver) I have one endorsement for speeding (3 points given, not over by much on return visit from the Hospital the week before my son was born and the van was camped on a money making exercise)

.........here comes the interesting part.

Admiral will allow me remapping up to 25% additional power (225bhp) for £60.00, £20.00 of which is admin, so pro rata'd given that I have five months left on my policy is circa £100.00.

Sooooooooo, I'll take one of those please :)

welcome to the forum, do stick around, as you do have virtually the same car ;)

you can tell when seat changed the engine, as their new one was announced and had lower emissions..... in skoda it just stayed quiet and the emissions were listed as the same.... engine code is CTHE it should be on a sticker on the drivers side of the engine block... or on the sticker in the boot under the carpet!

So Sparkly,

Do you have an APR remap now then?
