Boot light

Featured Replies

Hello. The arrival of darker evenings has revealed my boot light to be not working. It doesent look designed to come out easily for a bulb replacement and i cant see a button or switch for it . Could I have a problem with the boot catch like some on the octavia section have had?

I think it meant the catch in the boot lid needs replacing. Maybe?

The obvious, and least complicated, first place to check is the bulb.

The method of removal is in the Handbook, but basically you gently prise the top out of the trim panel.

It isn't difficult.

If the bulb looks OK, don't assume that it must be the switch in the boot catch that's at fault.  The design of the bulb holder is rubbish, and it may well be that it's just the bulb that isn't making contact properly.

Our Yeti is less than a year old yet the holder has been out at least 5 times in attempts to make the bulb work properly.  The first couple of times I just removed and replaced the bulb, which fixed it for a while.  Later I tried bending the metal innards a bit, which worked for a few months (disconnect the cable before you try this, as you might accidentally short it out otherwise) but today it's not working yet again.  I'll take the whole thing out again this weekend and try further mods to see if I can fix it.

You might want to try and check that the Diode is seated correctly. That could easily account for the fault keep occuring after you have had the lamp out.

Picture of the rear of the lamp with the two ends of the Diode indicated.

Note! The Diode is polarity sensitive. Ensure you put it back the correct way round if you remove it. It has a small white band around it to indicate polarity and it is to the right in this picture.

Hope this helps.............Tony

I didn't even know that there was a boot light so mine must gave been out since new! I'll take a look when it stops raining.

Mine's working again after more fiddling.  Point to note - you prise out the bottom of the bulb holder from the trim, not the top (there's a lip to allow insertion of a coin or flat blade if necessary).  As soon as I prised the holder out by 1/8" the bulb came on - and went off again when I pushed it back into place.  Typical!

Anyway, the diode was seated tight, and it's difficult to see how it could come loose.  The bulb is held simply by sliding it in between the actual conductors, which are not even made of proper springy metal.  There's no plastic holder to keep the bulb in the correct place so it can finish up in a range of positions, in some of which the contacts don't touch the exposed wires in the bulb.  No wonder normal vibration can allow the bulb to move and the contact broken.  As I said, it's a rubbish design.

And has been superceeded in the facelift model!!

Superskoda do a good LED replacement.
