LED license plate lights

Featured Replies

Anyone tried it, and if so: Where did you purchase? I really want to get rid of the yellowish lights and replace them with LED's. Often one can buy whole assemblies which are canbus compatible. I looked over at Superskoda.com but they haven't come up with anything yet.

I think you can buy capless w5w led bulbs which should "in theory" work and give you the affect that you,, I and everyone wants to achieve.

I linked to some replacement bulbs on another thread which were far cheaper than changing the assemblies.

Either way, VCDS will need to be used to stop monitoring.

Iv got some genuine vw ones for mine, there is a thread on here somewhere, they need a bit of plastic cutting off them then they will fit but do put warning light on however im going to get some adaptors with resistors in

Here's the direct link to the ones which I bought and they will definitely fit the number plate light below (plus there's no 'hint' of blue)!

I'm not too sure if I've seen anyone having 100% success with fitting the resistor 'mod' as the normal monitoring seems to notice anything untoward whereas the VCDS tweak is always effective.

You can get Canbus W5W LED bulbs which shouldn't need any tinkering with VCDS.

On certain cars you can get away with it but I don't think the mk3 Octavia is one of them!

However if someone has tried these 'bulbs' without VCDS tinkering then I'm sure everyone would benefit from knowing which ones are usable.
