uprated pistons? who makes some on the shelf?

Featured Replies

looking at uprated pistons for the pd 1.9tdi

already looked at the 2.0 ltr piston option, but these are a standard piston i'm guessing, nothing special about them, unless i'm wrong?

does anybody out there make a set that's better?

or is it a case of getting them custom made at massive expense?

just curious :)

Look on TDICLUB. At least one OEM option plus aftermarkets. Several discussion threads regarding overboring and optimum versus "risky" overbore sizes etc.

One question... Why? The standard pistons and connecting rods are more than capable of handling it

ooo thanks, i'll pop over there and have a bit of a read :)

I want to build an engine basically. built a vr6 previously and thought id give the 1.9tdi a go aswell. build it to a high spec and then fit it into something interesting :)

I'm thinking of overkill, I don't want there to be a weak spot, and also the 2.0ltr ones would (obviously) increase the engines displacement. just wondered what other options there was out there that's all :)

to clarify, im not thinking my 200bhp fabia needs uprated pistons and rods :)

Darkside have found the limit og the standard pistons and rods to be around 500bhp in their arosa.

It'll be a hell of a build if you go more than that!

I'm using stock pistons.  Worth upgrading the rods, but unless you're altering displacement, stick with the 1.9 pistons,.  They're not a "weak spot" really.  Plenty of others to worry about before melting pistons is an issue (and you'll melt any piston if you tune it badly ;))

I think they're made on a bench and put on a shelf afterwards to take off :p

Jason, is there many people that have changed the displacement on the PD's? I've not read much about it on here, many gains to be had that you know of? And what capacity do they usually "bore out" too?

Not many that I know of,  My next step will probably be a 2.1 litre conversion, but that's some way off yet, unless I melt something soon (unlikely) which forces me to do something....

Well i know not alot about mapping i'll be honest so i would plan to get someone else involved to help with that side of things. Just trying to weigh up the benefit of increasing displacement over the price of it. And thinking, Is it really worth it? Lol

Custom pistons on the 2.1 setup?
