Car Breakdown Service & Warranty

Featured Replies

Our Yeti is just coming to the end of its 3 year warranty period. Anything that I should ask the dealer to check in particular? We have had the whiteworm badge replaced. We also have the door lock rattle update carried out but there seems to be drivers window rattle so will get that looked at.

Car breakdown service. Think we need Roadside and Recovery. Have another car but it is covered by Mercedes Mobilo. Any recommendations as to who is best to sign up with?

I've used Brittania Rescue for years, and have never had a problem with them, plus I get caravan and EU cover included.

For several years I used Green Flag and had to call them out a couple of time. Found them very satisfactory and only cancelled when I got cover thrown in as part of a warranty package from a my pre-Yeti dealer.

Early this year we moved to Green Flag,  and made huge savings over the AA,  who were asking silly money to renew,  and not willing to offer anything for our loyalty over the years.  I think we paid less than half of the AA cost,  with equal cover...plus the offer of no claims bonus next year,  and a 50% reduction in premium if they failed to respond to a call-out within less than an hour (I think)   AA would offer neither of these,  nor consider reducing the hiked up premium,  so we walked away.  When I did call out Green Flag they arrived within twenty minutes,  and fixed the car no problem.

You can choose to cover the car,  or the driver,  or both. No brainer.....

Personally I use Skoda Assist as they have the specific diagnostics on board for vag vehicles (£145 for two years). Regarding what to check at three years, I always get it booked in for an MOT a week earlier and that way anything fundamentally wrong will be flagged up just in time for the warranty to cover it. :)

Identical circumstances to yourself as regards end of warranty and Skoda Assist. Skoda assist will probably write to you soon and offer to continue the breakdown cover. They did with us:

One year or two years full cover as before, including continental cover, at a good discount [60% off RAC regular price] - £89 for one year and £145 for two.

Pretty good cover and price for two years so we took it, and also took an additional two years official Skoda warranty at the same time. You can obtain both of these through any Skoda dealership without waiting for the postman to deliver your invitation should you wish............Tony

I have been with RAC for the last 34 years and have just stopped. The reasons were  because they had raised the price too much and they told me I would have to take the legal cover. I told them my legal cover was with my insurance and that I would like to decline theirs.  They insisted that the cover was free but the price increase proved them wrong, (they denied it was a price rise, just a cost of living thing). I asked them did it matter that I was the customer and knew what I did and did not want, that made no difference so I cancelled. a supervisor called me back but found she could not give me what I required so we parted.

I joined the green flag via the Caravan Club though I have since then parted with the caravan, the cost, included anything of any size that I was towing would be £95, this included getting me and caravan with car to the booked site and back home after the holiday if the repairs could not be completed during that time. I have read that Green Flag apply high increases each year but I cant comment on that issue.

My new Octy Estate has been built this week (40) I am told by Skoda Doncaster, (confirmed today) so when it arrives I will have 3 years cover with them through the RAC, I think, (how ironic)

best regards to all.

George the old Tynesider.

Have the car MOT'd early so that there is time for any problems which would be covered by the warranty to be sorted before that warranty expires.

I am a fan of Green Flag/ Mayday cover through the Caravan Club. I have their best cover at £89 a year- it has been that price since I first had it- about 5 years or so. In 2011 I was poorly on holiday right up in the North Western Highlands. My son in law fetched me from hospital and wanting to get me home asap we couldn't bring the caravan back. Green Flag/Mayday brought my little van all the way back to West Somerset some 650 miles. They were brilliant!  To date I have not had any increase in premium!

My husband and I were with the RAC for about 35 years through a group scheme, which gave us a small discount. We bought a new Ford car and had Ford assist for ONE YEAR, (certainly not as good as SKODA!). In the interim my husband passed away, when I tried to go back to the RAC, the premium was sky high and they would offer me nothing. All the years of loyalty count for nothing today!  Therefore I would recommend Green Flag both for value and service going by my personal experience.

As I shall have my new Yeti soon, I am wondering how Skoda assist works for caravanners?

Either renew the skoda assist (which has only covered the 1st 12 months for a while now, or see who's got the best cashback on http://www.topcashback.co.uk.

Got AA cover with 80% of it cashback during the summer!

thanks for the reply, the reason mine was as high with green flag is that I opted out of auto renewing which cost me an extra £10 first year. off the topic, I joined the RAC in my late 20's when my wife and I travelled by motor bike. it came in handy as no one back then would help if you got a puncture

My bank (Lloyds ) account charges are £17 per month but this gives me full AA cover plus holiday insurance cover for free..

The AA covers me for any car I'm driving and incudes getting me my passengers and the car home if it cannot be repaired at roadside.

The holiday insurance paid up with no fuss for my wifes accomodation when I was banged up in hospital in Southern Ireland for 12 days.

So if you bank with Lloyds it would be worth asking for details.

I joined Green Flag using Quidco in March. The cost for Recovery Plus was £48.76, however as I used Quidco I received £50 back a couple of weeks ago (6 months after I took the policy out).

As I've now got Snowy I have cancelled my Green Flag cover, and have received a refund of £16.96, so overall I have been paid £18.20 and had 6 months cover!

I would recommend using Quidco, or similar sites if you are looking at getting breakdown cover.

Looks as if Quidco requires signing up for direct debit for AA & RAC cashback.

Looked at the Which reports on breakdown services and AA seems best; Green Flag well down the satisfaction list.

You can pay all in one go. You can via topcashback

RAC Using tesco vouchers, just got the yeti with skoda assist so I'll bin RAC for now but I'll get it again when the time comes.
