Vrs estate ordered, second thoughts on sunroof

Featured Replies

I have ordered a race blue Octavia VRS estate with a panoramic sunroof, the main reason being to lighten the interior a little. Having sat in a hatch yesterday with the standard size sunroof I noticed that the roof liner is an inch or so lower to allow for the sunroof mechanism. My 15 yr old son is 6'3" and so if the roof is lower in the rear due to the longer panoramic sunroof that may well be an issue. Does anyone have any knowledge of happens with the roof lining on the estate with the panoramic roof? Any internal pictures would be great. If it is going to be an issue I may delete the option and spend the money on leather seats or upgrade the sat nav.

Just a thought, tell your son to slouch down a little - problem solved.

Panoramic sunroof is an option too cool to miss.

I am 6'2" and wont have a car with a sunroof as it normally takes about 2" of the roof hieght. Shouldn't affect you though he's a teenager and they can never sit up straight!

Teenagers are in the second left & middle of the picture. Weekenders (morning after the night before) are the second to the right & Weekday's are on the right.

So true! Mine's just turned 13 this week and he's definitely second left!!

The panoramic sunroof is extending delivery times so cancelling it may speed up the cars arrival?

I would have thought it would depend whether the order has been locked down or not.

The 13 year old here sounds like that pic too.

"Uurrggghgghh!"

You have the delights of expletives & mood swings to come then as the hormones send them potty.

Could be sunroof ,acc, the list of parts that cause delays changes weekly heard it all before ,the car will arrive when it does I guess but

I'm 6' 4" and the sunroof in the Octavia is no problem whatsoever.

As it goes up over instead of inside the lining of the roof there's no height penalty just lots of extra light and sun on those few days a year we actually get it.

Many thanks Sheldon. Is yours the panoramic on the estate?

I get my Estate on Tuesday with the sunroof. From my brief check, the interior seems lighter, and feels even more spacious, but I only have a toddler to sit in the back.
I will be post pictures as soon as I get it, so you can judge for yourselves.

I think that the sunroof my add some time to your order, as it did to mine, but other threads show which options are now causing more delays.

Be very interesting to see those pics haven't seen one in the flesh yet I although I cancelled it on my original I still think its the way forward especially with the dark interior in the vRS

For a glimpse of the sunroof on the estate see this picture (link from this set).

Spitzie when did you order? Yours a 2.0 elegance?

Spitzie, I would really appreciate it if you could post some photos of the sunroof on your new car when you get it. Many thanks for the link PekoSI, the photo gives me a bit of an idea what it may look like. Just trying to work out headroom and whether the occupants heads are under the glass or the edge of the roof lining.

@Danno, the occupant heads will be under the edge of the roof lining for people in front and under the glass for people in the back. From what I've seen (haven't got my car yet) the sunroof doesn't lower the roof line by that much, definitely not 2"! I think it's a great way to lighten up the interior, especially on a black roof lining VRS.

I've sat in a Superb Combi at a dealership, that had the panoramic sunroof and it looked amazing from the back seats. I'm not regretting my decision one bit.

I will post some after 1 more sleep

I like the idea of a panoramic sun roof, but have not seen one 'in the flesh'.  (Luckily headroom is unlkely to be a problem for me.)

Please excuse my ignorance, but: I can see that the transparent panels fill most of the roof.
- How much / which parts (if any) can slide back to leave the roof completely open?
- Are there retractable panels / blinds to blank off the clear panels if you want shade / privacy?

1. Half of it slides back.

2. Yes, a sort of cloth type material (it won't block 100% of sunlight). It is motorized on the estate.
