Differences between Octavia Elegance models

Featured Replies

You say "if the climate control is fully charged". Is there any way to tell before buying? Or will I just have to take my chances?

One other thing: when you say "a good tuning box" - is that the same thing as an engine remap (that appears to cost a few hundred quid)?

Ask them when the air con was last regassed, but you'll be able to tell by sticking it on the low setting and you should get "ice cold" air ccming out.

A tuning box is a plug in box which fools the engine into putting more fuel into the engine. It doesn't monkey about with the boost like a remap would. Typical gains are 20-30bhp on that engine and they take a few minutes to fit or remove.... :D You might want to run it past your insurance company though as some are funny about tuning boxes.... mine weren't and just asked for an estimated power-output from the car with the box fitted :D

Thanks guys. What a cracking forum :-)

Have a nice weekend!

You say the time belt was done at 59k , if it is now at 100k , may need to have it done again at say 120 max , cost approx 250 to

Well, I bought it. Paid

The mirrors always confuse people. One thing........ read the manual, so you wont have to ask what the plastic windscreen clip is for, or say how great the central sun visor is ;)

:wrthless: Well ........had to be done didn't it

Glad you like your car. The Octavia in Elegance spec is a nice car to own. :)

Goochie, you little tease - I had wondered what those windscreen clippy things were. Central sun visor? I guess I will have to read the manual. I went for years with my Golf not realising you could adjust the timing of the wipers in intermittent mode. Eventually I stumbled across the functionality by chance, but it had been in the manual all along! Feel free to enlighten me on the above 2 items if you like though!

Octygone - I can provide a pic if you would like? It is a nice shade of green, as had been said :-)

The convenience system in the Elegance is a very worthwhile function especially in this weather.

12v power socket in boot???? I don't think i have one of those, May 2003 Octy Elegance.

Where is it??

Only on the estates I believe.........

Good grief - central sun visor? Popped out to look at our November 2001 Octy Elegance estate - and there it is! Would never have found out about it otherwise - thanks, guys.

Re engine noise - many comments that current VW diesels are a bit raucous. We intend to move to the new Mk 2 estate during the next year - anyone got experience of relative sound levels of the 110bhp diesel (which we have) and the 130bhp and (current) 138bhp PD engines?

Recently drove a (hired) SEAT Altea sport with the 138bhp engine and DSG. Felt the DSG could have been better/smoother, but also thought the settings (and seats and suspension) had all been tweaked unnecessarily in line with the "sport" designation. Hope the Skoda version's smoother.....

Well, in my very humble opinion as a new old Octavia 110BHP owner, the engine seems very quiet to me, for a diesel. At least when I'm inside it anyway!

As requested/suggested, here is a pic of the Elegance I ended up buying. All seems fine so far, apart from no spare key and the cd changer having been removed (both of which I knew at the time of buying).

But it honestly feels like luxury compared to my 1996 Golf Mk3 GL TDi :D

Nice one monkeychops ive been following this thread and its nice to see you have got your octy now.

I became a Skoda owner 3 weeks ago, took a while to find the 'right one' - i brought an 01 elegance tdi wagon - and i'm loving it.

Do read all the manual though as it does contain alot that you might miss and or need to know as others have already said. I found it usefull.

I've had a quick read of the manual. Yes, very very useful. Especially things like what the fuses are and how to change the bulbs. Very in-depth. I was surprised to find quite detailed information about how to wash the car!

I am now a Skoda owner - woohoo!

:-)

Have had my Octy L&K 02 for a couple of months now, aircon needs charging but what a car! :)
