70 mpg a reality !

Featured Replies

Just done 400 miles of mostly motorway miles, cruising between 70 and 80......Maxidot says average fuel consumption for the journey was just over 70 mpg.  My Greenline is approaching it's first service and is loosening up nicely.

Was tempted to buy a 2 litre DSG but chose the Greenline instead for better fuel consumption.  No regrets whatsoever!

I have ordered one and going through te usual panics.............did I order the right model, should I have gone for a bigger engine, will it be good enough on the motorway etc etc etc.

Your post just cheered me up thanks.

My best so far is 76.8mpg, I too am really impressed with this engine. I regularly see low 70's on my commute. I find it a great challenge to try and beat it, but without going slow and holding people up. To me this is more fun than driving fast, as any modern car can break the speed limit.

Can't wait till she fully loosens up as its only got 20k on her.

Not wanting to rain on your parade but the only way to get an accurate MPG fiure is to calculate it manually.

The trip computers are often on the optimistic side of generous.

I'm sure 70+ MPG is achievable in the Superb but at 70-80mph this is extremely good going...

I test drove a green line a few weeks ago and was surprised at the mpg you can get.

But I chose the 170 elegance manual in the end for a mix of performance and mpg.

Around town the greenline  is hard to beat for mpg. but on the motorway if you start to push the greenline the

MPG soon drops. I can get easily get 60+ on the motorway with the CR170.

Smiles per gallon are what I look for.

I don't drive like an idiot and I obey the speed limits. If I was a taxi driver I would get a greenline but otherwise its got to be 170 every time.

I always work mine out manually, have done for the past 10 years or so. My maxi-dot is only optimistic by about 0.1 - 0 2 mpg per tank full.

My maxi dot similar to above and actually underestimated on the longest runs.

You must be the lucky ones, mines out by nearly 10% the other way!

Yup, mine's similar. Last tank 40mpg calculated, 45mpg shown on the maxidot.

Don't have MAXIDOT on my poverty spec. 1.4TSi, just the regular MFD trip computer. It is rarely out by any more than .1 or .2 mpg, and is always pessimistic. I have an OCD approach to filling (try to use the same pump each time, first click, wait 10 seconds, and two further clicks), then calculate and put in notebook. Average so far, having owned the car for 11 months, is 45.1mpg overall. Not bad for a petrol, eh?

78.8 mpg for the trip when I pulled off the motorway tonight in my Greenline, my best run for a while.   I have done a few brim to brim tests and the computer on mine seems correct to within 0.25 to 0.5 mpg, which is the best accuracy I have had on any car.    It has its first service Friday so mpg should be better still next week.

I get 35mpg in my 1.8TSi, but at least I look like a member of the Serbian Mafia.  Which is worth a few quid, to be fair.

You're doing better than me (33MPG brim to brim)! But my god its worth it the 10-12MPG drop over my old BKD 2.0 PD Octavia :D

Driving the wives Fabia vRS now feels a bit boring in comparison.... I like this turbo'd petrol malarky :D
