Build delays in Europe (non-UK countries)

Featured Replies

Is there anyone from other European countries that is experiencing the same build delays as so many UK buyers are?

I wonder if it's the same all across europe or only in UK because the only reason I still did not place an order for my new Octy is that I want a 2014 build. All this time I was thinking I should wait until maybe end of November just to be sure it won't be build in December 2013 but now reading all this 'delay topics' makes me wonder if it won't be Dec.2014 build at the end

Seriously I got Octy Estate with pano-roof on my mind and since this is obv one of the problematic options it looks like I should place an order ASAP if I want to get it in the first quarter of 2014? Or is even that too optimistic... :S

They've been building 2014 cars for over a month now....

You are referring to 'model year 2014'. That I know. But build year is still 2013 and on paper a car build now will be a year old in January 2014. I've been led to believe this matters later when selling it as a used car. Or have I been misled?

Place the order ASAP that's my opinion. Same delays across Europe AFAIK. My estimated waiting time will be around 4 months (hope not more) - Poland, elegance hatch with quite a few options.

Yes you've been misled, it's not a whole year until January so a car built now won't be a year old, it'll be 3 months old!

I think everyone can understand the point I was making. No need to make fun of it...

Ok sorry. If you order one now you probably won't see it until 2014 anyway so there's no problem.

Usually MY starts around July, but with model & spec changes MY for some models seems to be different to others.

So anything built Q4 will definitely be MY2014, some in Q3 could be either.

Ordered a VRS with a LOT of options August 27th, been told last week that my confirmed delivery will be week 48. I have the items that hold up the production on the list (pano roof on estate, ACC, Kessy, Front Assist, Lane Assist and all that).

Mine was built mid August and is a 2014 vehicle. I understand from what I was told, the addition of Front Assist to the Elegance marked the change of MY. MY2013 = no front assist

Andy

I ordered July 15th.

Only options are "false leather" (read: plastic) protection on the back of front seats, multifunction steering wheel and towbar.

Apart from that heated seats, color Maxidot and crome window trim is standard in elegance trim here.

My car is planned for week 45 build.

If you want to make absolutely sure you're not getting your car this year, you could add another option like Kessy or ACC and remove it mid November/ start December to "speed things up" if the car isn't planned yet by then.

But even with stock options I'd say go for it and get it ordered! I think you're looking at a March delivery already with the pan.roof.

In terms of the car being "1 year older" I think it varies a lot from country to country.

In Denmark one used car site lists by Model year and then has a field for "first registered", another lists by registry year.

So you do get a small penalty on search listings with a November/December registry, but so does a car built in May/June! To compensate, some dealers deliberately lists some cars with the higher registry date and just type the correct date in the text description.

I think you'd have to spend some time studying how your local 2nd hand market works to figure out how big the difference is between a December and a January build.

You can't remove a standard fit option.

i'm from Portugal and ordered a silver 2.0TDI Estate with some extras on 9th July, estimated build week 43, delivery between 46-47.

I have ordered mine in Romania, on 26th of August, 2.0 TDI, Elegance, hatch,  with few options(but no ACC, no Teron wheels as I was warned these will delay the order), and it is confirmed (but i'd rather say estimated) for delivery between 18-22 November.

Here in Slovenia first registration is also year of production. I believe that the sale of the used car whether it was registered in December 2013 or January 2014 does not matter. At least in my case.

Well since we live in the same country I think it shouldn't matter in my case either  :hi:

I guess a trip to the dealer is next then...

I mean in my case that all new cars ( six, so far), I bought end of the year.

You deler can confirm, if you order now, build week.

Manufacturers allocate a new Model Year "MY" annually . Changes are made for many reasons and can include minor or major spec and components revisions. Sometimes changes are cosmetic (revised lights. bumpers, wheels, stereo etc), sometimes there are mechanical changes (new engines, drive-trains etc), and occasionally we get an entirely new model. One of the main reasons for annual changes is to meet requirements for EU/Local emissions.

Most new MY's appear during Q4, so it is indeed possible to obtain a 2014 MY spec car during 2013. It is also possible to obtain a new 2013 MY car during 2014, although this is unlikely with Skoda due to long delays. Occasionally more than one MY will be released within the same year, MYa & MYb etc.

So, manufacturers MY's tend to be several months out of sync with calendar years. New MY's tend to be more valuable because specs and looks tend to improve.

As far as I know, the VAG group changes its MY during the summer in June or July (can't remember exactly which month). Correct me if I'm wrong.

As such you won't get a MY 2013 in 2014, as MY 2013 ends in June or July 2013 and then MY 2014 starts until June/July 2014 and so on...

I think I am the king of fast: ordered on 26th of august. Custom build. A lot of options (no pan roof). Tsi motor. Build week 40, And i will have it this week..

All major OEM work on a wk26 MY change.

So wk26 2013 equates to a MY14 vehicle build.

It usually slips after this date but that's the theoretical change point.

The dealer just told me that my O3 arrived in Romania. I will be able to pick it up in 7 days after the full payment.

Originally it was estimated for 18-22 november, but I was kind of lucky to get it sooner, so I can say no build delays for me.

This Tuesday my local dealer told me I'm looking at around 4 months from order to delivery because of pano roof and some other options. I signed up for a test drive with 1.4 TSI this Saturday and if I'm satisfied  with the performance I'll place an order right away. This way hopefully I'll get it end of February which is perfect for me. Fingers crossed...

Hungary here. 1.2 TSI Elegance with a few extras (no front assist, no panoramic roof), order date 17.09.2013 (week 38), expected build week is week 04 2014, and the "secondary build week" (whatever this might mean) is week 50 this year.

Dealer told me that I should expect a shorter waiting time than this... reading this forum and the German Skodacommunity forum, probably just wihful thinking... :)

I had mine received on 28th of June and it is MY14
