Any ideas on what this noise might be? (video)

Featured Replies

So just over a month ago I had some Eibach springs fitted. They are on standard dampers and I have noticed a noise coming from the rear recently. I have a white line RARB fitted and I originally thought it was this creaking where I forgot to grease the poly bushes in the clamps. But I have since removed them and greased them so it cannot be this. I think the rear dampers may be on their way out, but I'm not 100% that the noise is them and not the springs "rubbing"???

Any ideas would be ace.

Thanks.

It's not your rear brakes is it? Mine make a similar noise...

One of my cars does exactly the same, I will be very interested to find the solution.

Not sure if it could be this. If I open my boot and sit on the lip and bounce up and down it does it. So I thought it was a suspension issue?

Anyone else got any ideas?

I'll take a new video as it's hard to hear on there because of the main road.

did you have your handbrake on at the time?

Yes.

Try it without the handbrake on :) obviously not on a hill etc haha

With the handbrake on the rear brakes will always make a noise if the vehicle height changes as the wheels will try to move.

New video I took the handbrake off. Still getting the noise.

You can see on the video the handbrake is off cos I rolled the car back and forth to show.

Anyone checked the new video?

On mine I suspect the rear shock absorber, it's either something to do with the dust cover catching or the piston rod moving up and down through the (dry) top seal, I think I sprayed some lubricant onto the piston rod and it quietened it. Obviously the spray helped because I can only occasionally hear the noise.

I'll get some GT85 from work and try that.

Please, I hope you don't mind my intrusion.

But not sure where or how to ask the following question regarding my:    Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v petrol 2000:

My speedometer has broken and I understand the cable can be removed and replaced. The speedometer cable is at the front of the car somewhere near the oil filter and can be removed.

Has anyone got any helpful information they could pass on in order to put this matter right?

Would appreciate it very much.

Yours Kit

Turned out it was the bushes at the bottom of the rear shocks. And a quick spray of WD and they are now silent :)
