Sorry. I thought I said I got mine from Halfords. :o

Adrian is right though. To be on the safe side buy two.

Just used one tin on mine today, seems to have worked OK.

Saying that I don't think my CC was that bad as it only seemed to smell for a few seconds after start up.

Yup it's good, I used it a bit ago and was well impressed.

Yeh I was impressed to begin with then about 2 weeks later the smell is back.

Im not sure what causes the smell, could it be a damp pollen filter? through which all external air is being drawn, cos there is no smell in re-circ

Could be bacteria build up in the system. do you go long periods without using the AC? The system should be used a little even in the winter, just to keep bacteria at bay.

Once bacteria takes hold its quite difficult to get rid of. Might need to visit the dealer to have the system cleaned, but this is not always 100%.

Always have mine on and it still does it :(

I use Fortron treatment which works in the same way (switch a/c onto recirc, close all windows and doors, set the can off under the recirc intake and get out, leave for 5 mins, remove the now empty can, then leave ac for a further 5 mins.)

Works a treat.

Lummox: Is it hard to manually clean the part of the system that collects whatever sunk there is that smells? I suppose it could be a dash-dismantling exercise?

Yep, same here, mine is used every day

I'm NOT going to get one of those aerosols if it does this to the dashboard !! LOL LOL LOL

one thing that did annoy me was the film the spray left on the centre console and windscreen !

Yes, why is that? I have a Fabia and I put the aerosol on the rear floor. The console was drenched with moisture, but not the dashboard, door panels or anywhere else. It does a good job though.

Didn't have anything on dash/seat after doing mine....although I was prepared for some...it says there might be some moisture in the instructions.

basically i should have expected it as the instructions tell you to put the climate on full whack with recirc and windscreen.

the vapours are pulled through the aircon unit and blown out over the windscreen.

the film and wetness on the centre console and hand brake surround is simply from the spray being pulled towards the dash by the air moving around the cabin.

The guys who fix our office aircon just recommend Dettox or similar. Fan on full, and give it a few squirts into the intakes.

You might want to leave the windows open though!

Phil

I prefer to "burn" the smell away with full use of the aircon, and always turning the aircon off 5 mins before stopping to allow the system to dry out.

Always works for me.
