Sump Guard

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone is aware of a sump guard upgrade for the TFSi vRS Octy? After a bit of a search I see that the Scout has a thick steel guard but unsure whether this will fit the vRS.

Has anyone upgraded the sump guard on a vRS?

Cheers in advance.

Planning on getting some air off the local speed humps?

Be warned the metal sump guard on the Scout is very heavy. Not sure how this will affect the vRS in terms of suspension and handling.

My Scout is quite stongly damped on the front, not sure if this is due in part to the extra weight slung under the engine?

Ha, not quite. I occasionally have to take the car down muddy tracks that are fairly uneven. Just wondered if there was a bolt-on OEM upgrade to provide a bit of added protection.

I understand that there is also a stronger plastic version of the metal sump guard.

This was originally fitted to the non-Scout 4x4 Octavia's.

Good info. Thanks for your help. :)

It might be worth looking at a parts catalogue, as some manufactures some times have protection kits for vehicles used by police, mod, emergency services.

Not seen any upgrades to sump protection for the Octavia actually, only the old Group Buy that we had done for the Fabia Mk1 vRS many years ago.

Wonder if we can find someone to fabricate one up :)

As far as the Scout and 4x4 versions go, the mount points for it should be exactly the same. My only thought is with the bumper design on the Scout, as the underbody protection then comes up to meet the bumper, does it not?

My 4x4 has a steel sump guard and its feckin heavy. It has two extra bars which run across the engine bay to bolt the guard to. It meets the bottom of the bumper at the front just like a standard plastic one.

Won't the Yeti rough road kit one do?  Maybe a bit easier to source than a 4x4 item.

Having smashed a sump on a French "c" road some years ago, I still feel a bit vulnerable "under there".   Fortunately M. Le Garagiste was extremely obliging, as was Madame in the Tabac who found me a Depannage in the Page Jeune.

Wouldn't have thought the Yeti one would fit? Also the fact that the Yeti one was subsequently revised and it's not the solid metal one it used to be on the Rough Road pack.

Also in packaging terms if there are extra fitment bars for the 4x4 version, as Trundlenut mentions.

FL Scouts have a reinforced plastic one AFAIK.

Unlike my pre-FL metal one which has proven useful a few times..........

Reference sump guard on FL Scout, was informed by dealer plastic on 1.8TSi, metal on diesel.

My facelift Scout has a plastic guard - sounds rubbish but seems pretty robust and good enough for occasional grounding.

The dealer was wrong then :giggle:

London Les has a diesel FL Scout. Bloody dealers. They should spend more time on here learning about the product they are trying to sell!

My FL 4x4 has the plastic version, which would prolly be easier to fit to the vRS than the Scout equivalent given the bumper/skirt shape at the front end.

Now we just need a Part Number from the 4x4 version :)

As someone pointed out, the 4x4/scout sump guards are fitted on additional mounts under the engine, not just clipped to the bumper like the normal undertray. You will need that too.

But of course - need part numbers for those too

Will see what I can find.

I will try and have a look this weekend, its stamped into it, hopefully on the underside.

I need to go to TPS tomorrow, so I'll try and check.

When Dropbox decides to play ball I will put up some detailed information but the headline:

The glorified piece of crinkly tin costs £156 on it's own, before you add in the costs of the brackets, bolts and various fixings.

Right then folks, here are some pretty pictures I took with my phone of EKTA whilst at TPS.  I didn't get all the part numbers for all the bits, but there are quite a few bits required for fitting a steel sump guard.  Apologies for the weird pattern you get when you photograph a monitor.
