Stayed in today to wait for these Dunlop WinterSport 4D 225/45 R17 94V they weren't my first choice, but based availability the best I could find without spending silly money.

Any tyre fitter recommendations for the Notts area?

I trust you have 17" wheels to put them on as a F/L vRS comes with 18" wheels ?

I do indeed have a second hand set of Zenith 17" alloys. Glad I'm not looking for 18" winter tyres as they are quite a lot more expensive.

Pictures when I've got them fitted

That is why I bought an OEM solution from a dealer of 16" OEM Steels with Winter Tyres, also means that my 18s are wrapped up safely in the garage for the Winter weather and road salt.

They came out well those, in this year's round of winter tyre tests. I think you'll be impressed :)

Can't help you with that one, as the usual issue is that they want you to buy from them as well!

A quick Google reveals that this mobile-fit company will fit customer supplied tyres, if that helps at all:

Was that the 2013 AMS Sports Winter test? http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2013-AMS-Sports-Winter-Tyre-Test.htm Was going for the Conti's but availability was a problem. These Dunlops came 3rd so hoping for good things.

The other half was less than impressed that I had left them in the hall.  :notme:

I though about that, but I couldn't quite bring myself to put steels on the car. Looking forward to the 323mm brake upgrade I was thinking of in the future I wanted them to be able to fit round them.

That's the one. I had the previous revision on my 17" Pegasus wheels and was very impressed. They probably outperformed my Vredstein Wintrac Extremes I currently have on my winter set. Plus traction in the wet was bloody brilliant, comparison to normal summer tyres was like the car had 4WD :)

Tyres in the hall always cause controversy! No idea why ;) - especially when they're new and they stink of the transport film they apply to them :D

I think you guys look a little too upmarket for your tire fitting.

Normally get them done for £5-8 each, at a grotty back street place, the type that advertises part worn tires from £10 etc... All depends if I talk straight to the lad doing it or to his boss (cheaper for the first). Could try and get them done for free if you had some half worn for them to sell.

I take the wheels in, already off the car and they'll normally do them there and then while I watch.

Never had to take one back for a slow puncture or balancing yet.

It is about knowing where to go, true enough. I have a couple of options locally here.

Crucially for me, it's also about using someone who can fit a tyre without gouging the alloy in the process!

whereabouts in Nottingham are you?

A good family friend owns a garage in Long Eaton who fitted my winter tyres the other week.

Got them fitted in the end, garage in Beeston. They seem to have done a good job, no gouges in the alloys.

The alloys aren't in amazing condition, getting them refurbished is on the list of things to do.

If they're just for winters then i wouldn't bother - leave them slightly ratty and you'll worry less. Refurb them and you'll be much more likely to clunk them in the snow ;)

I can only concur.

I might fold myself though, as there's paint flaking off my winters due to an amazing refurb job my the previous owner!

I bought a set of 18" avon ice touring for £360 delivered which I thought was a good price. Even better that I sold the Hankook Icebears that I used last winter and were already second hand when I got them for £250. All in only cost me £110 overall!

GJB,

Am I right in thinking you just got a set of steels and tyres from the dealer that would normally be fitted to a 'lesser' model of octavia? What was the figure you had to pay? Understand if you don't want to broadcast it so feel free to PM me.

Cheers, Paul.
