Pulling to one side

He said they had but I don't think they were working.

The one press lock/unlock on the key fob has been activated but the alarm chirp/beep hasn't been activated either.

Not the end of the world so not too bothered, seems to be easy enough so if I'm near the dealer I might pop in to see if they will have another go.

Just glad to get the car back really all nice and clean as it didn't go in like that.

I thought it was.

When I drove home from the garage it seemed fine as I was only on 30mph roads but since I've drove to work and back on a dual carriageway I've noticed that the steering wheel is now slightly off centre to the right.

If I straighten the wheel then the car drives to the left so back to square one.

It doesn't want to pull like it did before and if you drive with the wheel off dead centre then it tracks and steers straight.

Also, as it's had new tyres fitted, the balancing has been done but it now vibrates between 50 & 70 MPH which it didn't do before.

I've rang the dealers back today and they want me to go out on a test drive with their senior technician so I can show him, don't know why I couldn't just drop it off and let them drive it but I can't do it until a week on Monday so nothing more to report until then.

I'm a bit pee'd off now so I'm going to try and get it back to them sooner if I can.

Hmmm good and bad in equal measure it would seem, I have had my dunlops swapped to pirellis and it has improved markedly with the pull to the left, although like you my steering wheel is now off and needs 'trueing' - no vibration at speed though thankfully.

Im in the same situation. Bought a 2010 Fabia VRS with worn dunlops. Skoda tracked the car after a week due to pulling left. Now replaced with new dunlops (hadn't read the threads beforehand) and the left pull is suicidal. Skoda are currently looking into it but even the service bloke and woman are having the same debate (he has continental tyres and no pull, she has dunlops and pulls left).

Im due an update on Wednesday this week an expect a new set of tyres at the least!

Welcome to the forum.

Did you road test the car before buying it and feel it pulling to the left on its worn Dunlops?

How many miles has the car done in 3 years?

Is this an 'Approved Skoda Warranty for 12 months on a used car', or the cars original  'Skoda 3 year Warranty' still valid?

Why are you expecting new tyres to replace the new Dunlops?

Who put the new Dunlops on, when they had sold you and let you drive away with the car as it was?

Was it the place you bought them from, or did you buy them some place & have fitted ?

If you bought a 2010 car with worn Dunlops they are hardly likely to be replacing tyres for you under a Skoda UK Warranty or for any reason.

Your car needed new tyres because they are worn, it got new tyres, the car should have been checked properly by the garage before they sold it, they knew it was near requiring a MOT, if not already done

Was the Dealer that sold the car paying for the Tyres or Skoda UK??

Did the Dealer that sold the car cover the cost of checking the tracking or was It Skoda UK and a warranty approved thing?

The car had surely done a good few thousand miles on the Tyres over 3 years, or however long untill you bought the car.

I have driven 2010 vRS on 3 year old 10,000 mile plus old Dunlops with no pull just behaving as a car should,

There are people with vRS from 2010 still on the original Dunlops that have covered over 20,000 miles.

Others have them worn out within 8,000 miles.

Its down to drivers style really.

Hi guys

Picked up my brand new VRS last Thursday night, I have been lurking here for a while now and reading this thread with interest. My car pulls to the left badly, when i let go of the wheel it actually turns about a quarter turn before you straighten it again, Dunlop tyres of course. I have been driving for 16 years and had many different cars most of which have been VAG group cars, and never have i felt anything like this on any of them. I am bringing it back to the dealer tomorrow morning and taking the senior tech out to show him the problem????? i think i will sit and drink their coffee while he drives it, if i had have been told by the salesman that 'before you sign for your new car i must inform you that its going to pull to the left as they all do that' I would have walked away, but now the deal is done finance signed for etc so can i still reject the car if its not sorted?

Amazingly Dunlop must sell thousands, maybe millions of their tyres,

thousands of people buying Sport Maxx and having them fitted correctly to their cars.

Fitted by Tyre Fitters that know how to fit, them, using the Run Out Stripes, inflating.balancing,

fitting the tyres to the correct side of the car since they are directional. etc.

Lots of problems with them reported as new OME fitment to Skodas & VW's.

Or when fitted to used Skodas.  post #56 as an example.

Strange that Dunlop stay in Business when Skoda seem to think their tyres are wrong.

Even Stranger that Skoda & VW keep on selling cars with their tyres fitted.

??Has anyone asked Skoda UK,

'Are the  Dunlop Tyres at fault,

and if they are, why did you supply the Dealer with a car to sell me  with them on?

Someone earlier in one of the pull to the left thread said that some tyres (read Dunlop's) don't take well to the type of fitting done at the factory.

Has anyone actually tried a Microsoft style fix.

Take them off and then put them back on again (properly)

Could it be that simple?

The car was bought from Skoda Stockport with 23330 miles on clock at three years old. Skoda tracked it after id had it a week due to pulling left. I then hsd event tyres in Manchester fit new dunlops (£450 as aposed to skoda wanting £700 for a full set). Instant pull to the left. Event tyres have done four wheel laser alignment twice (watched it done and saw it was actually out). They then swapped front and rear wheels around. All to no avail. I only put dunlops back on as it came to me with them on and I knew they were an oem tyre.

Ive regreted it since cause of the pull.

Skoda provided a twelve month warranty with its purchase. They're staff are looking into the tyre issue with dunlops and im awaiting their feedback.

The cars done 1100 miles on the new tyres since being fitted 6wks sgo.

Failing this I'll take it to a VAG specialist (awesome gti in Manchester possibly) and have them assess it.

Should HSD Event Tyres not be looking at the Dunlops or talking with Dunlop, they supplied and fitted the new tyres

this is what made me wonder.

I think Skoda Stockport can talk to Dunlop about things in General & the cars coming with Dunlops fitted from the Factory.

Why would Skoda UK or Skoda Stockport replace tyres now that you got from HSD Event Tyres?

If the used car with 23300 miles and worn tyres pulled to the left on those tyres and pulls to the left on the new tyres

its needing

Proper Alignment checking and then resolving the Mis-Alignment, not just changing Wheels and Tyres front to rear.

Car problem not Tyre Problem.

Skoda Stockport can take 4 wheels and tyres off a car that runs straight and try them on your car,

then they will know the jackanory.

They could do the ones on the Woman on the Service Desks car at the same time.

** I would not go messing about around other places if you have 12 months warranty with Skoda Stockport.

They need to get the car fit & safe for purpose.

If you drove out the garage with pulling to the left, then why did you not return it then to be corrected,

rather than getting new tyres fitted first?

The tyres they sold you that  the car wearing must have been legal in the amount of tread they had when you collected it.

Skoda UK are aware of this issue, I know from my 1st hand dealings with them.

They know that certain fabia models, Dunlop unidirectional tyres and the UK road camber are a bad mix and the released technical bulletin (that most dealers don't look at) recommends re-tracking on a 4 wheel machine and then changing tyres to directional type (usually Pirellis).

As most dealers aren't aware/don't look at the tech bulletin, the best bet is to contact skoda UK direct and get them to deal with resolving the issue.

Just to say finally after 6 months of back and forward between 3 different dealerships, talking with skoda customer care and a tyre shop I have got my VRs back. It has a new set of Pirellis after a set of factory fitted Dunlop tyres which was causing the car to pull badly. Now the car tracks straight and true, I just wish the first dealership didn't say its a common problem nothing to worry about..

I had the car at the dealers this morning and went for a drive with a Skoda tech and he agreed that it was indeed pulling to the left. The tyre dealer then done a 4 wheel alignment and no better, so its booked in again next Wed. Does any one have a copy of the released technical bulletin or a ref number or anything that i can quote when the car goes back in?

Just tell them to refer to the Technical Bulletin they have received,

or call Skoda UK Technical. if they have not received, or they can not get their hands on it.

this is their day job and the customer should not need to tell them how to do things properly.

If you want the Information, call Skoda UK Customer Services before the appointment and see what todays story is from them.

It is like every case is something they have never heard of before

and they start the messing about with customer after customer.

I have just picked up this thread.

My wife’s Monte was new in August and has now covered 1200 miles.

I have noticed that it pulls to the left.

I have seen the comments about “Dunlop Unidirectional Sport Maxx tyres”

Our car is shod with Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres, but they have a directional arrow on the side wall. Is this that same tyre?? (It is pointing the right way)

pistolpete559,

just read that your car is brand new a couple of weeks ago.

Have you checked and set the tyre pressures and then made allowance for the car needing some miles to run in,?

tyres mature, suspension settle, new springs, bushes etc.

Or is the pull to the left beyond just newness?

yes im pretty sure its the same tyres, like my wife who drives the car (i prefer 1 wheel drive) she thinks it just normal  but as ive said ive never driven a new car that pulls to the left, go to the dealer and get the ball rolling

Thanks for the reply.

I do not drive that car that often, put I put it down to having light steering & that I only drive the car on ruff roads.
