Just wondered if anyone had considered/has chucked some NOS on their vRS's? I'd be interested to know the results

25/50 shot I think would be safe, however I would be concerned about putting even more stress on an already remapped car.

P.S. I am in no way going to attempt doing this, just interested in people's views

i have seriously considered nos on my 4x4, but the way to go is a progressive controller rather than a shot. then you can bring it in gradually rather than just shoving a load of power into it and breaking things

There is a good decription of how it worked on the tdi engine on the JBS site..

well there used to be - cant find it now. :confused:

If it was me i would go for bigger turbo instead as you get the benefits of it more often and you dont need to refill bottles/arm system first etc etc..

JBS use to have a demo fabia vrs fitted with NOS. MAde around 215-220bhp using a special REVO map. Think this is the limit you can go on power due to maxing out the injectors.

I too would go down the hybrid/bigger turbo road for the same reasons above.

I was going to use the kit from my Polo on my vRS, but I decided against it and sold the kit.

I figured that as I'd have to buy a new uprated clutch, it'd cost too much.

The petrol boys will be fine, with a diesel you're asking for trouble by increasing octance values - diesel depends on the cetane value, not the octane value and massive detonations seriously damage diesel engines.

nitrous doesn't increase the octane though, nitrousoxide just has more oxygen than air so gives a similar result to a turbo and super charger. more oxygen per gram or what ever

But the diesel engine is a stronger unit than a petrol, so can cope with the higher burning temps. Didn't 5th gear put NOS on an N-reg automatic Golf diesel and it absolutely flew. Think the company who did it offered a 3 year warranty on the system so they must have some confidence in it

IMHO Nitrous is a pointless waste of time in a road car. Why not get a bigger turbo, new cams etc?

Nitrous does increase oxygen - that's what gives the extra performance, but it also detonates, like petrol - it'll explode without mixing with other fuel if ignited. Yes a diesel is a stronger unit, but it's designed to handle a different kind of force - compressive forces, not detonations.

Like I said, it will defintely work, but I'd severely doubt it working for long.

Diesel has a very low octane rating, meaning it burns for a lot shorter time, creating less heat. Petrol has a high octane rating, meaning it burns for a long time.

A diesel block is not designed to cope with high octane fuel, which is essentially what diesel + nos is.

Basically the heat will f*ck the engine.

diesel + nos isn't like a high octane fuel though

diesel + nos is like a TD i.e. diesel + more oxygen = biggerererer boom

diesel + nos + turbo = even biggererererererer boom so engine has more torque per rpm

T'will kill it, trust me

have you done it then steve? blown up a diesel through nos?

Not personally, father is a mechanic and many moons ago did this very job to an older TDI (he also supercharged an Austin Healy - spare crankshaft in the boot :eek: ). I also considered it for mine and enquired with him - forget the science, but basically it kills the engine :thumbdwn:

Maybe someone should be asking why Wizard of Nos offer a 3 year warranty against engine parts then and why they are more than happy with the results?

Also JBS did a Golf PD 150 IIRC which when revo'd produced 230 bhp? maybe someone should ask Sarah for her input then we could make an informed decision :confused:

If you want to do it, do it.

NOS also brings free radicals to the party which like to eat, well most things, but especially the kind of alloys used for pistons, inlet manifolds etc. Hence the lifespan of many internal components will be shortened..
