VCDS-Mobile (HEX-NET

Featured Replies

Bruce can you confirm if the updates will continue to be free on the Pro version?

Yes, we are not changing our business model. Software updates remain free and available to all users.  VCDS will continue to be developed.  VCDS-Mobile will continue to be developed.  There are two teams working on these products.

As I said earlier in this thread.  We are there for the enthusiast.  Maybe $399 is too much for some.  We get that.  But to do what we have done - to make a platform independent device that you, the enthusiasts have been asking to have, this product has way more cost to it than previous generations.

To make the HEX-NET platform independent requires intelligence in the device - much more intelligence than what we had in the HEX wired versions.  While technology lowers costs over time, what we are doing has not been tried by any other diagnostic tool manufacturer.  None offer platform independent tools.

We hear and are listening to all that is being said.  Our 10 VIN product was our attempt to provide a wireless solution for many enthusiasts.  The Unlimited product is where we really need the price to be.  We talked about bringing the product out with only that price and Uwe Ross said, "No. We must have a means to offer the enthusiast a better price point."   Our response has been to limit the tool and reduce our margin in order to offer a lower cost device.

We know limits are not for all.  We know limits will not make all happy.  We are leaving choices.  The wired products remain.

And do remember, our business model is not changed.  Our support also remains.  We leave to each user the power to decide what is best to meet their needs. We have responded to the enthusiasts community request for a wireless platform independent product but we cannot meet that need at the next to zero price most would like.  Those of us at Ross-Tech would like that too.

But, we also like to eat.  And some days, we like having heat in our homes..   Did you see the news about the icepocalypse?  We live in the heart of that...  it's been a rough week for all of us. Temps -10C to -2C most of the week.  We lost a lot of hours this past week. It's not the end of the world but our focus has been a bit diverted...

Crikey didn't realize that you guys are in the middle of it all.

Stay safe and warm - us we are just getting wet over this side of the pond.

Thanks for the two way dialogue - always interested in rational behind the pricing etc. No issue with you making a fair return on the investment, we all need a sustainable long term model for Ross-Tech.

We are mostly on the other side of the power outages... down to only a few thousand still without power in our county - the hardest hit county.  But, we had more snow overnight and are expecting more - and possibly more ice - later this week...  This is the kind of winter I remember back in the stone ages when I was a kid.  We have been spoiled for the last 20 years!  Life goes on and we get through.

Is there any updates.

Work has been progressing and real progress has been made.  Early adopters in the US have been a huge help to us because users will do things we don't anticipate!  However, we still feel we are not ready for a world release given the bugs we have been working.  We are pushing forward ....  we know many would like to be using it out beyond the US shores.  We are working to meet your desire and need.

Update: We expect to make it a "released product" as an interface for the classic Windows-based VCDS software this fall, hopefully in October or November, but in any case, before the year is out.

However, VCDS-Mobile, which is what one would use on non-Windows platforms will remain in Beta for a while longer. I can't say right now how long it will take before we consider that a released product.

Thanks for the update

Bump, are these available in the uk yet?

  • Author

Not yet, you can buy them directly from RT (USA, so don't forget to add VAT, import duties and carrier handling fees) but resellers will not get there hands on them whilst it is still in Beta.

I think ill wait till a stockist in the uk has them.

That's what I've decided to do as well.

Still kicking myself for missing the 15% flash sale at Ross tech to get my hands on one of these.

My ancient laptop really isn't worth trying to resurrect, so would be the ideal solution for iPad/phone.

Im guessing no news on a UK roll-out or coming off Beta?

No nothing at the moment, ideally I was also going to wait to be able to buy it from a UK supplier, but hopefully with the 15% discount there will be very little difference in price when it is finally released in the UK.

Group buy when it does become available?

This has been asked already and despite it not being ruled out completely they do not think it’s very likely as there will be a lot of demand for it anyway.

Bump, has any retailer in the uk got these yet?

  • Author

Not that I am aware of.

Personally I would hang fire a bit though as it does take a bit of getting used to (compared with the HEX+CAN)

Gizmo is correct.  No distributor has the HEX-NET.  It remains in the Beta state not that we are not trying to get our arms around all things.  We are!

Is it possible to buy in states and bring it over to use? Any regions issues that you are aware of?

No regional issues, it works fine in the UK.

You have to pay import duty though .........

I tried to buy one but since you can buy it only directly on ross-tech site, final cost (import duty+shipping) would bo almost 1000usd, so I "had to go" for HEX-CAN :(. I am a little sad for that. :)
