This is my 1st post, been looking at other posts about the oil problems with some of the Fabia Vrs.

I brought my Vrs back in June 2nd hand, it is on a 60 plate and has now done 24,000 miles, I started to notice a oil issue a few weeks after buying the car, in total I put nearly 3 litres of oil in 1800 miles,also had vibrations when DSG changed from 1st to 2nd. I called my local dealers and had it checked out. I was told I would have to go on the oil consumption test and that they would fit a new clutch pack to the DSG to solve the vibrations. I had to run 180 mile and then send it back in to be checked, the results come back and I was told it was using 0.9 litre per 1000km so they would fit the breather pipe mod. Went on another consumption test then my car went back in on Monday. I had a phone call on Wednesday and was told the test come back at 0.6 litre per 1000km and that Skoda told my dealer my dealer they were to fit a new engine that would arrive Friday. I went up on Friday to see how they were getting on and when I got there I was told they were no longer going to fit a new engine but were going to fit a new pipe and do a software update. been told I should receive my car back tomorrow with the new mod and clutch fitted.

Has anyone else had this new Mod done and does it work? And also does the new clutch solve the vibrations? I feel like I am being messed about with Skoda and are trying to do the cheapest thing rather than replace my engine! I do hope they will sort it out as I love the car and don't want to have get rid of it.

Have they said why they won't fit a new engine?

Apparently they say because my car is only using 0.6 litre of oil every 1000km now it is close to border line so they want to try this new fix rather than fit a new engine but I have my doubts because they said the breather pipe would work but it didn't.

I'm sorry to hear that you are being messed about by Skoda. In my case I went from breather modification to engine replacement without any fuss. The ECU update should have been done at the same time as the oil breather. I noticed some very subtle differences in how the car ran after the ECU update. However the major point here is that the breather modification has not worked in the majority of cases. It made my oil consumption worse. There have been at least 20 reported cases (UK only) on this forum of the oil breather modification not resolving the problem. I've only seen one positive report. It's a similar case with VW Polo GTI's. I'm surprised the oil breather is still being offered as a fix.

Skoda want happy customers. We are not happy when we have to keep taking our car back to the dealer. Talk directly to Skoda customer services and insist that you are taken to the next stage rather than being messed about. Usually a further oil consumption test is required following the breather mod before the engine is replaced. Fortunately I got away with just one oil consumption test throughout the whole process.

 

The handbook limit for oil consumption is 0.5 L per 1000 km. For the oil consumption test it is done on the basis of measured weight loss.

 

I think that it is essential that you lodge your case with Skoda UK customer services and use them to steer the dealer. Tell them that you are very unhappy with how you are being treated. It appears that you do need a replacement engine and you shouldn't put up with delaying tactics. I've been very happy with my car following its engine replacement and I had good support from my dealer.

go with the breather fix, it worked on our Fabia, we also had a software update that changed the cars driving characteristics.

 

 If this does not improve the situation, you can then argue the toss for your new engine.

James is the only one who has reported that the breather fix worked as far as I'm aware!!!

There are 20 reports on here that says it doesn't.

it worked on our car, did not stop the oil usage completely but we get a lot more miles than the 300 we did when it was new.

 

 I have to add though, I did a track day with the car also, bouncing off the top end of the rev counter, this may also have helped as before this the car was driven steady and only short journeys.

I've already had the breather pipe fitted and it did not work, this new fix is another pipe and software update. Big sheep I can't complain about my dealer they stripped my car down on Friday ready to put new engine in and it was skoda uk who called them and told them not fit the engine but do this new modification. It's frustrating because my dealer showed me on Friday my car in bits and the new engine sitting on a pallet but they not allowed fit it till this modification been tested.

Feel for you mate. This is the inherent danger of buying a used Fabia vRS. Have you got much warranty left? Hope u manage to get he new (or recon) engine fitted soon!

OK, I understand. Your complaint is with Skoda UK rather than the dealer. Depending who is on your case they can be difficult to deal with. It's odd that the new engine got as far as the dealer. Someone at SUK must have changed their mind. You will have to fight your case and may have to speak to someone higher up the ladder.

Runs out in december furbytom, however my dealer is getting a price for me to extend it for a couple of years so will be getting that for peace of mind

I'm going to call them tomorrow big sheep and log my complaint and tell them I'm not happy with all the messing about they are doing.

Ask for your money back! Unless they chuck the new engine in! Another breather pipe fit won't do it , the breather pipe is just a plaster fix oil consumption will be back !

If every Skoda, VW and Seat owner with this engine and issue contacted BBC watchdog I'm sure we'd learn what VAG really knows about this.

I would contact Skoda UK Customer Services tomorrow, and if the are not going to do a correct repair under warranty, get a Vehicle Mechanical Engineers Report done privately and then a Solicitors Letter and the Report to Skoda.

Recover the cost of the specialist report from Skoda.

Just a quick update,

 

I called SUK customer services today and logged my complaint, Spoke to a very helpful women who agreed I should not be being messed about! Was told that a customer service manager will be in touch within 48hrs. Was asked what the best possible outcome for me would be and I told her to fit the new engine in and some extended warranty to cover the new engine.

Also I had a phone call off my dealer today saying I can't pick my car up till tomorrow now as they were still in the process of aligning my clutches up on the DSG. 

Re: breather pipe mod, it reduced my oil usage from 1.3l/1000km to 0.8 but still needed a new engine. It's better now at around 0.3l. Hope you get all problems solved!

If the Oil fix makes no improvement and there is no reason that it should, 

then when they do fit the new Engine, after wasting your time in trying to save them money.

be sure you have them fit a new Gearbox as well at that time.

 

A nice new engine and gearbox fitted and running properly before the Warranty Expires rather than them hashing around in some 'kerb side autos' attempt and fixing faulty vehicles.

 

They are having a laugh and taking the Pith. IMO.

 

The ECU Update should have been done at the 20,000/2 year 'Inspection Service' as a matter of course.

Was the car Serviced at a Skoda Dealership before you bought it, or a Skoda Dealership Stamp in the Book @ 24 months?

Not the best outcome, particularly when the new engine is sat there with the dealer. I feel sorry for you. Skoda UK would appear to be paying more attention at reducing their losses rather than customer satisfaction. The only goodwill gesture I would accept is an extended warranty on the car.

Agree with you there big sheep I will ask for extended warranty. If the try give me a free service I will tell them where stick it as my car as had enough fresh oil in it the past couple of month lol

Hi My dealer has offered me a new engine, due to the oil burning issue and following breather mod, which will be fitted next week. I am happy with this but not the fact they wont warrant the new engine longer than my current warranty that runs out in March 2014. I dont understand this and I know if I bought a new engine I would get at least a year probably more?

I was told the same thing before the decided not to fit my new engine in. If I was you I would phone SUK up and ask why they won't.

Had my fabia vrs 5 months done 4 track days thrashed from day one and has only used 800ml of oil and have had no DSG problems clearly there seems to be a problem with the earlier cars my car is a 2013 CTHE engine code and i have not had any problems.
