True, a pressure drop measurement or sorts would put this argument to sleep to be honest thing is most folk want the noise or chatter so i can't knock them for that.

  • How has the surface area been reduced? I will give you my car if my cone has reduced the surface area. Basic maths can tell you it has been increased by a decent amout.

  • No its a JP190 intake

  • K&N open cone + bigger intake (idea stolen from joe )

Its probably just a phase :) imnliking the chatter and noise atm

the box is in my shed if I need it :)

I think that the S2000 filter is probably the best solution of the lot since Honda will have specified a very good standard of particulate filtration, and I therefore have no objection to it on that basis.

I do however find it amusing that everyone is convinced that a cone is the answer when the cone filter (it's actually a frustum, not a cone, but I digress) was developed specifically to produce a strong reversion pulse in the inlet of a naturally aspirated engine (hence the flat end cap), such a design can have absolutely no effect at all on the inlet of a turbo engine.

As many have correctly pointed out you'll be losing a smallish amount of power unless you include an encapsulated cold air feed like the standard airbox.

The net result is a small loss in power traded for a small increase in noise. There is always a reason why Engineers design things the way that they do.

Killjoy woz 'ere

Do the s2000 filters fit straight on the maf with a jubilee clip round it or do they need anything else? Don't know whether to get one of them or a ramair one

Get a ram air one, they look much better :)

The benefit of a s2000 filter is that its paper not foam like the ram air. Need to keep an eye on the ram air after awhile incase its starts disintegrating. If i was to buy a s2000 i would have to mask the filter off and spray that nasty plastic colour black.

:D ..this is the first thing I'm doing when mine arrives!

That's what I was thinking of doing spraying it black. Can't decide which one to get, the ramair one does look better but if the s2000 could look really good sprayed black

The s2000 is 12.50 on euro car parts now aswell which may help your decision. My large ram air was 40-50 quid but can get a slightly thinner one for less.

I was just going to get the £20 one off Ebay, should be fine for just a remap

Get a Jetex one like mine :)

Yer its still pretty big, be fine for hybrid and more i expect.

Its the foam that I'm not too keen on, I've only had my pipercross filter on for a couple of months max and its not in the best of condition already.

I'm going to do some maf logs before and after the s2000 filter and see how it affects the airflow.

Look the S2000 filter comes off a properly designed 240bhp car, I don't think it's going to be restrictive, do you!

Was just interested to see any difference to be honest, wasn't for a be all and end all result.

Sorry to have insulted you.

Phil, you didn't insult me, I'm simply pointing it out for others who may be 'less observant' shall we say.

I'd be surprised if the MAF were sensitive enough to discern any difference at all to be honest, since we're talking about tiny differences, if any.

On an N/A car though. I was under the impression cone filters altered the turbulence of the air prior to passing through the MAF.

Logs would be great Phil! :)

Makes no difference to net airflow, an engine is a pump, a 240bhp N/A engine has to pump the same amount of air as a 240bhp turbo engine. You should know this.

A cone type filter simply provides a nice flat end plate to create a strong reversion pulse in the inlet which can be used to push fresh mixture back into the cylinders when wild cam durations are used on highly tuned N/A engines like the S2000 has.

The MAF may well create a tiny disturbance to flow, however there is no such thing as 'air grooming' Dann, it's marketing bull****.

I have a k&n pannel filter and standard intake box :)

People take the mic if I run a cone filter lol

Logs would be interesting. To see if there is any point in a cone or not :)

**** them, it's your car ;)

I know. But when I was trying to have a conversation with someone that was on the other side of the bonnet to me and I couldn't hear them while it ticked over. I couldn't argue. .. in the future ill put a miltek exhaust on though :D

Haha get yourself a Helix SMF then they'll have something else to moan about on your car ;) they are loud!

I like the quietness of it at the moment. The faces people pull when they are revving like **** and your just whooshing along behind them haha

In progress ...
