Mine doesn't do the owl noise either, but like you Dan I have a similar sort of noise when lifting off. Sounds amazing already - looking forward to hearing it with a filter on now :-)

What specifically  determines whether you get the owl noise? My PD130 doesn't do it at all but my Focus tdci with straight through pipes did it crazily loud.

I too would like the owl noise, or even a switch to turn it on and off haha! I let up with Dav-vrs on here and his did the owl noise but times really loud! Sounds really cool.

Some of them do, I had a Focus TDCI with the centre box removed (was the only box on mine) and mine did the owl noise to an extent!

Have a look on YouTube and you will find loads of Fabias / Ibizas etc that do it.

Alot of golf's by me all do the owl noise. I thought if you had a decat and no boxes it did it but seems not. Will be interesting to see if mine does it. There's a black one I keep seeing that makes the owl noise

Edited to update it's not really that loud with a 0 box system, I'm quite shocked at how quiet it is to be fair. Does the owl noise slightly when heard outside but you can't her it inside

Not as much as say an open cone! But adds a little bit

I still have some of the blue ASH corrugated hose if anyones interested!

Straight silcone onto the MAF from the TIP rubbed on coolant pipes so the corrugated blue hose was my 2nd attempt

Then you need the snorkel off the pd160 intake and a bmc kit and your there

Ive jus replaced my 4 old battered k&n cone with a new cheapy cone but taken out the full air box this time and replaced the trumpet with a large cold air feed and its actully made a huge difference to me, much more sound and also seems much smoother and more responsive throu the revs happy chappy

I had a brand new Pipercross filter in packaging down my unit - it's been there for about 2 years!! So it's gone to good use finally!

 

Car sounds meaner for sure, but it's not too loud by any means. No chattering noise to my disappointment though :-(

 

Need to sort my cold air feed out also. The car seems to pick up better when it's coming on boost now - I've found it wants to spin up a lot more in 2nd.

 

Please excuse the dirty bay.... on my (large) list of things to do!

Surely a cone is just going to suck in hot engine bay air?

As well as heat, have reduced the surface area of the filter thus less air can be consumed in a given amount of time.

How has the surface area been reduced? I will give you my car if my cone has reduced the surface area. Basic maths can tell you it has been increased by a decent amout.

Honda S2000 filter. Still using cold air feed from oem box

Don't want to get involved in an arguement but the surface of a standard paper filter is greater than a cone

Look how many fin's are on a standard filter. Then check a cone filter. I would say a standard paper filter has twice the surface area of a cone.

The reason the cone doesnt feel too bad is because its filtration quality is poor compared to a standard filter and lets all sorts through.

But for looks and a bit more grunt its perfect if thats what your after
