From Superb to VRS

has anyone gone from superb to vrs? how does the build quality compare? I know I will miss things like electric memory seats, folding mirrors with the spot lights,

Does the octy have coming home lights?

thanks

Yes, coming home is fitted as standard, it was an option on my existing Mk2 that I've never once used in 3.5 years!

It is superb. Switch on and drive off in 60secs in the depths of winter

It's always amused me that a 17 year old girlie comes out of her house on a January morning in temperatures of -10C at the same time as the 50 year old businessman who lives next door.

She jumps into her 10 year old Ford Ka, presses a button and drives off 60 seconds later with a clear screen.

The businessman unlocks his £70k Mercedes, grabs a plastic ice scraper and has to clear his screen manually.

Any half-decent car in the UK (where you can get frost any time between late October and early May) should have a heated screen as standard?

i do find this option very useful, especially when you can set the lights to come on for 10 secs or so, when unlocking in the dark.

I'll be going for heated screen in mine

All depends on the orientation of your car to your driveway and path to your front door. My driveway is to the side of my house, probably most people's drive is like this. So when I come home, the lights helpfully light up my driveway while I walk 90 degrees to the right to/from my front door ;)

Pointless for me, glad someone is getting use from 'em!

The heated windscreen is available with the TSI VRS in other countries. I have it on my order and I've seen a TSI VRS delivered with the heated windscreen. It's just SUK patronizing you guys.

I think this is probably to fit in with the UK road tax system. They've made a big song and dance about the emissions being lower but I bet they couldn't meet their quoted co2 figures with the heated front screen.

That's probably because the heated front screen is patented Ford tech and anyone who wants to use it has to agree a fee with ford which obviously puts prices up so puts people and manufactures off.

Doesn't make sense though?

If I'm Mercedes-Benz, I apply to Ford to use their patented idea and Ford say "that'll be £500,000".  Surely it makes sense to then offer the option / include as standard on as many Mercedes units as possible as it means cost per unit is lower.

Suppose its more likely that up until recently Ford has refused to allow other companies to use this tech as its only recently it's started to appear on other makes / models.

Does the heated screen raise co2 by much? What is the new figure then for vrs's with heated screens?

The configurator shows no change when this option is added

Thanks

I went from Superb II to Octy III Eleg. This was my initial review after a couple of months with the Octy. Having put over 9k on the clock now, I have moments when I miss my Berb but on the whole, I still love my Octy, but already looking forward to see what Skoda come up with for the Superb III.

Thanks Matt, glad to see you are enjoying your new Octy. I do not require such a big car now as very rarely do I take all 3 kids in the back now that my eldest is now driving.

The tech in my 59 superb does now seem very outdated, but I cannot fault the comfort, build and relaibility after nearly 100k. I have to admit that opting for Ivory leather did bring out the OCD behaviour in me as I have managed to keep the interior spotless - everyone who sits in it cannot believe it had done nearly 100k as the rear seats and front passenger seat show very little wear!

I am seriously contemplating a VRS TDI now and may even fund it myself using my car allowance instead of opting for a company car.

I think Skoda has now been removed from our list - so it is now audi a3/4, bmw 1/3 series, VW or Ford if I stay in the scheme

I have done a few sums and it seems that opting out may make financial sense as I should be better off once the extra mileage allowance is claimed from HMRC!

Thanks for your feedback
