What a great car

Featured Replies

It all started when I said I'd like to get my 59 plate TSI VRS on an autobahn to see what it'll do..... It finished with an 11day, 2000 mile trip through Belgium, Germany and Austria.

Max speed: 148 - on the sat nav, the speedo was well past the 150 mark. I think I could have got  a few extra mph with a longer flat out run, but self-preservation kicked in when approaching traffic with more than a one or two cars close together. Sadly never got much more than 3 or 4 miles without traffic.

Best mpg 42, when obeying the speed limits on a 150 mile drive along the local roads of southern Germany and Austria.

Worst mpg - 11!! while doing 148mph. On a 250 mile trip where there was plenty of time to run a high speed, 120  - 140mph, it managed an average of 24mpg! - not too bad really for the speeds reached.

Bad points:-
paying 1.65 - 1.70 euros per litre for Shell V-Power racing. Just imagine a run of 280 miles costing over £75 !!

Good points:-
It felt absolutely planted when going round an autobahn bend (?) at 135 mph - it's amazing how much those bends tighten up at that speed.
During the whole trip it never missed a beat. we went through rain, low cloud, sleet, sunshine, dry roads, wet roads, very wet roads, some lightly coated snow roads, some cracking local roads, rush hour traffic.

In reality a trip with great variety in car that simply took everything in it's stride

What a motor - FANTASTIC

I have to say, from my experience, they turn into a totally different machine over 100mph! They feel even more planted at 120 than they do at 60!!

Come to sunny Brighton with our Green council's 20 mph limits all over the town. You could really let her rip then!!!

Might as well get a Ford Prefect van. Oh, wait a minute, that's also got an engine.

Better make it a wooden pedal car..........................

Perhaps we should all learn to obey the speed limits like the drivers in Germany.

Never seen anything like it, as soon as a new speed limit arrives - loadsa brake lights and everybody keeps to the new limit.

Taking mine to stuttgart in November. Looking forward to seeing what 240+ horses will translate into in terms of single digit mpg.
