Key turning in door

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

i know there are several threads on this, but i have a slightly different query. I have an Octy Mk2 classic (no central locking!) and the drivers key turns and turns!

I can find a 'lock repair kit' for MK1's, but not mine, the local dealer says i have to buy a lock barrel for around £40, and may take 6-8 weeks.

Is this the only alternative?

I fitted a remote central locking kit on mine, no need to use the door lock then

Lock barrel is goosed and, unless you want to retrofit remote central locking then the dealer will need to order you a new one.

if it's anything like most other VAG then it's possibly just the parts at the back of the barrel that fit into the door mechanism. Fitted a fair few on other VAG. Very simple to do. I've not done one on an Octavia yet but plenty of various Seat, VW & Audi. Takes a couple of minutes to remove the barrel & a few more minutes to fit the repair kit to the back of it

That's what i originally thought, but the ebay ones only go to 2004(edit- or 2009,late MK1's?), so i asked the dealer if a 'kit' was available for MK1's and he said yes, but they weren't for MK2's, so i presumed they must have changed?

would be cheaper/quicker to get a 'kit', if it's at all possible.

ok, i'd remove the door barrel & have a look at it myself if i were you. In fact if i could get my hands on a mk2 i would actually have a look myself but unfortunately i don't know anybody with 1

Weird! i posted a reply, but it's not here!!!

Anyway, went to take it out and my torx setup is too big to fit through the hole in the door!!

Borrowed another torx screwdriver and removed lock, it doesn't appear to be 'serviceable' to me, so I've ordered another (£40) one.

Then the dealer told me it may well be a long time because VAG are updating their parts system this month!!

C'est la vie!

Just a quick update!

initially i was told 4-6 weeks delivery on a new lock (for my old key), possibly 8 weeks as VAG are/were updating parts sytem. After 4 weeks i went to dealer to see how the order was progressing and was told they would find out & 'phone me later that day. They didn't.

Hey ho, still early days. Went back 2 weeks later to enquire once more & point out they never 'phoned me back, gave them choice of 'phone numbers, and again was told they would look into it and phone me later. They didn't.

Yesterday (now 8 weeks) I decided to phone Skoda UK, and after a while (I'll put it down to a bad line!) they said they would look into it and 'phone me back. They actually did, and said that the order had 'become lost' , and the dealer would phone me yesterday afternoon to explain the situation. They didn't.

So now, 8 weeks down the line, I'm no nearer!

Make of that what you will.

Would a rake around a scrappy not yield the parts you need?

It may well do, but, I thought for 30 odd pounds, I'd get the right thing,

that,

hopefully,

would last!

Maybe do that in the mean time!
