Gear selection problem on PD130

Featured Replies

On the way home tonight I went to change into 2nd and it crunched. I dipped the clutch and tried again and it went in. However the gearstick seems to have moved backwards. 3rd is now approximately where neutral should be with 2nd and 4th being quite far back. 1st, 3rd and 5th feel normal when engaging. 2nd and 4th (didn't try 6th) don't feel as positive but work fine. Now the worse part is reverse won't engage at all. I can push the stick down and left but it just won't go forward as if reverse isn't there.

Does this sound like a cable alignment problem or something worse?

When you wanna get into reverse, try double-clutching before doing so. That works. Somethin' to do with the synchromesh, I have that problem too (not the 3rd in neutral position thing though)....I'm getting my reverse gear changed very soon though. Get yours checked ASAP. 3rd shouldn't be in the neutral position.

Does sound like one of the selection cables needs adjusting.

I've re-aligned the cables on my Corrado, but it was a case of trial & error. I think the dealer will have a special tool to align the cables.
