saxo vtr track car

Featured Replies

So after deciding that our 106 rallye trackcar (me and my mate own it) had too much rust to carry on with we started searching for a new track car.

Went to have a look at this tonight and put a deposit down. Seems a very straight and rust free car, the body work isn't the best with scratches etc etc but as its going to spending its life around Oulton that didn't really both us.

So hopefully be ready for next years trackdays

looks more than tidy enough as a track blaster and is the same as your 106 so you should know your way around it too, bits should transfer too, bonus.

to be honest its a bit too tidy. its only got 67000mls on the clock. i'm sure them 67000mls have spend most of there life around the 6500rpm mark mind

my Golf only has 47,000 on it and now it is stripped out and only suitable for the track, it is only a car, get it sorted and get it out there.

haha, it wont take long trust me!!

I am hoping to just turn up to one in the next few weeks, watch for a bit and then ask if I can get out for a few laps after lunch, I recon they will take my cash and say yes!  A whole day is too much really, as I am still setting the car up.

i was planning that when i took the pics at oulton. i know some companies let you, well they have in the past for us and other companies say no!

i bet it costs a fortune with a V6 aswell??

12 mpg    I did 184 miles on £84 worth of super unleaded!!  It soon adds up, so you see why half a day is appealing, I only live in St Helens so not far from Oulton park either.

WOW!!! we usually go though about a tank and a half but the tanks on them are only 45Ltrs

It does add up quickly to! especially when you add brake wear, tyres, for us trailer hire then actaully paying for the track day.

this is why we both go halfs and also with this one we want to make it handle better so that keeps the costs down going halfs

We tend to do the winter track days mainly as they are alot cheaper and there seems to be less heros on them.

Oh yes it adds up. BUT it is cheaper than entering an event or series, a mate of mine rallies in the forests, he pays on average £500 entry fee for about 45-50 stage miles, he then has to prep the car (MK ii Escort) he will get through fuel, 8 tyres and he has to buy in date seats and the like, so track days are cheap.

Post up when you are going and I will try and get there too, i am sure the Golf and the Saxo are evenly matched.

yeah my dad races in the 750 motorclub and that costs enough!!!

no worries will do! hopefully wont be too long till we get on but all depends on how far we want to take the suspension upgrades, bigger torsion bars etc etc

I'd say the golf would be quicker if im honest!

get the saxo out as is, then when you start modding you can benchmark your progress, my car as is was lapping 2min 17 seconds as is, next time is turbo outing so I can compare.

So, the saxo actual got turned into a track car. only took two years.....

Our first day at Oulton went very well. after changing the engine to the 1.6 16v lump, having to splice all end of wires as the engine came out of our converted s2 rallye, the fact the radiator hose was too small and has been rubbing on the crank pulley (we used an extended copper pipe to fix this), all the electrics in the car not deciding to work etc etc etc i really could go on for an eternity but i wont.

So we arrived at 7.30 ready for sign on but with no testing what so ever we had to check the car over, drive around the paddock to check that everything was working and no coolant was leaking.

Unfortunately as we couldn't drive it on the road we didn't know how much the satchshift (redesigned gear stick and rods) needed adjustment, luckily it was only out a little bit. Rather scary though at half 7 when it jumps out of gear and you think you have to put the car back on the trailer before the trackday has even begun.

After that first initial scare the car was flawless. Ran all day and wasn't given an easy ride. glad it all came together and now we can focus on improving instead of fixing the thing

I know they aren't to everyones taste but they are lots of fun

We even got a video, the sound quality is horrendous :(

Nicely done. I used to own a saxo vtr.

What brakes are you running as I still have a full set of mintex m114 pads and discs new in their box that I ordered from KAM racing

  • Author

we are running 266mm brakes with ferodo ds2500.

What size disc have you got? as you probably know with psa even the 266mm have different depth sizes (not too sure which ones we have)

Not sure off the top of my head. Been in the garage for a few years

We do need to get some new discs as they are rather warped now, can you measure them up for me ;)

Ben
