Forgot to order sunset glass!

Recommended Posts

Cant believe it, new vrs arrived last Monday after 3 months of waiting and I had forgotten to specify the sunset glass option! Was sure I had but when I looked at the order form ...no I hadn't.

Has anyone any suggestions on whether this can be rectified or are tints the only option?

On that does anyone know the factory tint level so I could possibly match it?

Cheers all.

The factory tints are inside the glass so the only way you can replicate it exactly would be to replace the glass.

The only other option is aftermarket tints / film.

The problem with this is no matter how good the fitter is you can always tell, especailly on the rear window with the heated screen elements.

Yeah thought as much, I have noticed a small band around some cars windows which have tints which is a look id like to avoid.

Car is black vrs estate so who knows maybe tints would be too much black on it and it will look better without??? maybe just trying to convince myself..

I disagree with that statement. I've had every car I've ever owned tinted in the aftermarket and only on a couple could you tell. For the last six cars I've had Pentagon Supaglass fitted. Our local installer is brilliant, proper care is taken with the car and you can't see the tints separate to the glass, even if you look at where its cut at the edges. :)

Have you considered the genuine Skoda window blinds?

They fit perfectly using little clips and still allow you to open the rear windows with them in situ.

I had these on my last Octavia (albeit a MkII) and they created the look of tinted glass from the outside. You can get them for the rear door windows, the boot side windows and the rear boot lid window.

It depends if you know what to look for. The tint will always have to sit directly on top of the rear window heated elements which from the outside is noticeable.

It depends how hard you look, I guess the vast majority wouldn't be able to tell.

Good tint companies should be able to find out the tint level and replicate it perfectly. Your dealer will also be able to give you the light transmission % of the factory tint.

Film is your only real cost effective option as replacing the glass will require a specialist and new glass starting behind the drivers doors back, expensive!

I have never noticed any issue with the wiring causing issue with the tint but have defo noticed the thin band around rear window where installed, is this something that a good installer can avoid?

I have saw some estates such as rs4s in black with tinted windows and look good but also others like a mondeo the other week that looked like a hearse.

Maybe a lighter tint is the answer.

At least it is a mistake that can be easily rectified

Plenty of good tinting companies around

And definitely go for a lighter tint

Limo black looks like a van on Black cars IMO

I think it depends on the dealer and vehicle.

Father in laws Jazz you can't tell as the elements look inside the glass and actually quite hard to spot.

One of their neighbours Focus you can see the boot trim and the elements stand out a mile. In fact quite a few Focus and Fiestas I've seen suffer from this badly

I've looked into tints as they were not an option on early build Elegance hatches. Tint-R in Nottingham have been recommended to me and quoted me £125. Still not sure though so might wait for the fitted blinds, checked out with www.uvcarshades.co.uk they emailed me to say should be available before the sun comes back next year!

The blinds are brilliant I still have them on my mk2, but they aren't made for the mk3 yet

Good to know, that's who I got my last ones from and I loved them. But they just kept telling me " not at the moment"

Was it possible to buy window blinds for the mk2 from the dealer as well? As genuine Skoda accessory? If so when are they gonna be available for mk3?

I think that as more and more enquiries are taken, the greater the chances that someone will bring em out, just not enough demand at the mo cos Skoda can't make the cars quick enough in the first place so Octy III's are still a rare breed at the mo!!

Id agree Damo, error on my part but like you say can be rectified. Now I need to begin looking for a good installer in east of scotland.

West end garage in Edinburgh did mine. Very happy with the results
