got mine off eBay 6000k all fitted inside the head light. make sure u get cancellers as they flicker when main bean is on. I also got ultra bright led side light with no warning light problems £45 in total :hi:

use the search box and you will find lots off useful information

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xenon-HID-Conversion-KIT-H1-H3-H7-H9-H11-HB3-HB4-9006-/330379335700,  you need H7.

Everything fits in headlamp shell.

You will need to furtle with VCDS.  ie alter a code setting via your obd port.  Newer fl's are apparently more involved, but there are shed loads of threads on here about both.

I chose colour temperature 4300K, same as OEM, others think 5000K is the biz. The difference is not massive.

The higher the colour temperature, the more ultraviolet (they look blue) and the less able humans are able to perceive it and the duller the road will appear.  Good if you are an insect though.

How to's and shed loads of threads on here.

got mine from hids direct. been in four years now

And remember not all HID equipped cars come with headlight washers now. Anything under 2000 lumens doesn't require them.

New 2013/2014 merc eclass has done away with headlight washers. Basically research has shown they can cause more dazzle with them fitted than just having dirty headlights.

+1

4,300K H7 NON CANBUS kit (then code the car with VCDS) from londoncolour.

Forget to mention Non Canbus.

Mine are also still working perfectly after 4 years.

I dared post in a HID thread in the Superb II forum last week upsetting a few of the lighting police!

I noticed  :)

What I can't believe is that the HID kits are almost as cheap as a replacement set of halogen bulbs  :D

Why did you even need to post this?

You know how some people on these forums feel about the stupid aftermarket crap Xenon systems. However over time we've actually stopped posting in the threads.

We let people make up their own minds if they want crap fitted to their cars that will probably blind oncoming traffic etc.

So what do you do? Try and bait those people out with stupid posts like this. So why exactly?

Ah but if you make a post like that you're hoping nobody will post right? You've called them out before they make their post!!

Ah ha - clever....or not.

Well played that man

Strangely enough, in projectors these HID kits are probably a damn site less blinding than those who run Nightbreakers etc etc etc

Agreed there.

I was followed by a pimped Asta van the other night with very bright and very blue uprated halogen bulbs in standard reflector headlights.

I thought he had main beam on.

Really wish I had an auto-dimming rear view mirror now.

...goes off to see if they can be retro-fitted!

I've also noticed that the facelift E class has two light sources in each headlight when the low beams are on at night. So maybe the light sources are under 2000 lumens *each*?

@ OP

Am I correct in thinking I answered this for you on Boards?

Non canbou

5k kit

Code to suit.

As yours is the Pre FL model everything should fit inside the headlamp unit.

That is if you buy the kit i linked to on londoncolor.

Could someone explain what HIDs are, Im a novice!

High Intensity Discharge (iirc) - basically non factory fitted Xenon headlights.

Wouldn't be without one personally. I retrofitted one to my Cordoba. Shouldn't be too hard surely on yours as you already have the rain/light sensor so the mount should be all geared up to take the auto-dimming one.

Just wish I had an L&K that also dims the side mirrors too!

HID and Xenon are two different words that mean exactly the same thing. Xenon is the gas being used inside the bulb and High Intensity Discharge is the principle behind it. It doesn't have anything to do with whether they're factory fitted or not.

It doesn't have anything to do with whether they're factory fitted or not.

True, but factory fit are normally referred to as 'xenons' and after-markets are normally referred to as HIDs, probably to point out the 'difference'

Well i am going to take the plunge (which at £25 is worth a dabble) and order some to see how well they compare.....

Anyone near Newark/Mansfield/Worksop fancy doing the coding for me????
