vRS TDI Real-World MPG

Featured Replies

Similar to other topic, but this time for vRS TDI.

I am curious about the figures.

Please also indicate gearbox type, manual or DSG, and the circumstances where you got the figures.

Thanks,

FGD

TDi manual driving 70 miles a day to work and back on twisty and dual carriageway, I'm getting 47mpg average. That's with spirited driving in sports mode.

I've done a 70mph 100 mile run as a test, and averaged 51mpg.

My cars now done nearly 3000 miles and it's definitely for better with miles.

vRS TDi manual, clocked just over 4000 miles now. On its daily grind, the wife ferry's the kids to school and nursery, then on to her work, so it has a stop start-ish urban commute of 20 miles then a run on the motorway for about 20 miles, morning and night (very varied) and the car is averaging 44-45mpg.

I use it at the weekend, for days out, shopping trips and the like and get similar results and I give it the beans when I can!

We have taken it for a 300 mile round trip to Anglesey, in light easy traffic, at a steady 75mph cruise and it averaged 56mpg.

I tend not to rely on the optimistic on board computer, so I take a mileage reading with every tank fill up and work it out the old fashioned way. As a matter of interest I have found the obc to be only 2 or 3 mpg out each time.

90% of the time the car is in Normal mode with the other 10% in Sport.

Cheers

Do we have any hyper-milers in a VRS TDI? I have to cross Europe reasonably regularly these days, and the VRS was a perfect for me to avoid the drudgery of the normal-ness but still get some MPG. If I can hit 55 in time that's a whopping saving compared to the 30-odd I'm managing now.

This is for a MK2 vRS TDi (170bhp) DSG, but I drive to the French alps each July, it's about 900 miles each way and I just put the car in cruise control at approx 80mph once in France and get about 50mpg usually. That's 2 adults, 2 dogs, a bootful of gear including bicycle.

Might be even better with the MK3.
