Finally finished the front bumper

20140622_212220.jpg

Now alligns up well, the back parts will pull in more once the inner arches are back on!

20140622_212208.jpg

A few months back I did the cold air feed mod but im concerned of picking up spray from cars on front when its raining!

So decided to keep the 3" feed, chop it down and locate it throught the arch. May not pick up as much cold air as previous but definatly will suck in more air than the original pipe

20140622_212453.jpg

Also put the engine covers back on and had a quick wipe over

20140622_210355.jpg

Next will be to start on wheels

Todays progress. . .

Calipers were in need of some paint. I was originally going to go with orange to keep with the theme, but managed to find some green paint that is a near perfect match. . .and only cost 5.99

Some 'before' pics

20140624_142605.jpg

20140624_142616.jpg

20140624_151554.jpg

Removed the pads to ensure I didnt get and paint on them.

Started off cleaning them up with a wire brush, also good for adding a 'key' for paint. Then gave a good wipe down with 'panel wipe'.

20140624_150403.jpg

Once the panel wipe had dried, I then went around and applied 1 coat to all calipers.

20140624_155726.jpg

Then by the time I had done the 4th caliper, the 1st was dry enough for a second coat and so on.

This is after 2 coats and still a bit wet

20140624_155738.jpg

Soon after began to rain but lucky enough the paint is quite thick so the rain had no impact on the finish.

Once the rain had passed, went on to put the headlights back in.

They allign up much better with the bumper now and thw indocators no longer have a great gap between them and the wings.

20140624_171337.jpg

The grey and orange wheel I did previous was going to be kept as the spare, but having cleaned up the other 4 wheels, Ive found one to be quite corroded. So ive decided to use that as a spare and repaint the grey and orange wheel. Got the tyre swapped over this afternoon so can start on the wheels tomorrow

The wheels after 3 days of drying

20140702_130706.jpg

Today ive managed to finish the following. . .

Fitted lowering springs 35mm but will only lower vrs by 20mm. They are prosport springs, only cost £70. Was told they were spacific for vrs and not golf springs but when they came the box had an octavia label over a golf label! However it sits pretty level where as golf springs usually cause the octy to sit about 10mm lower on the rear.

No pics yet as car is in a state and would spoil it to any pics up now.

Replaced osf ball joint

20140704_153305.jpg

And in doing so, noticed alot of oil around the boost pipe from the intercooler to turbo, turned out to be a very weak jubilee clip which would have caused a boost leak. So replaced that also.

20140704_153256.jpg

Got the tyres fitted back onto the wheels, all ballanced with new valves and bead sealed. Also fitted new centre cap decals and they look great.

2014-07-04%2021.50.00.jpg

Fitted the repacement wheel arch liners, will be added some louve into the off side soon for better cooling of the intercooler.

And finally taxed the bloody thing costing £146 for 6 months!

This weekends plans

Get it tracked up

Refit boot angle bars, started to remove for paint but they can wait.

Adjust rear silencer as its tilted slightly

And Hopefully. . . . . A full valet

Looks very well mate. Seems like you like the job done right and dont just bodge it as i would say. Maybe a vrs grill badge will finish the front end?

Little update,

Finally sorted the audio

The nsf speaker has never worked, so took door panels off to discover it wasnt even plugged in! Quick plug in to check all was ok and we had sound! :)

But the speakers which were fitted had too high a wattage. Speakers were infinty kappa push, 75w rms, my 4x50w sterio was never going to be enough and definatly not spending time and money on an amp at the min. I got some bose speakers 25wrms laying around which I had in the mx5, but originally came from a high end alfa 157.

Also wired back in the original tweeters. Sounds whole lot better

20140718_145146.jpg

And the bose

20140718_144741.jpg

And a little touch, thanks to crazygeordiegirl from ccuk forum for printing

20140725_131739.jpg

20140725_131649.jpg

Designed it myself combining the ccuk and briskoda forums although did take a little tweaking as the machine kept chewing up the print

at last, an update. . . .

got a 12" fusion sub with built in amp. Not actually managed to secure it yet so currently strapped inplace with a ratchet strap. not the best, but its functional.

Need to sort the Head unit next as the volume button gets stuck and its looking tired.

fitted the standard rear springs back on as it sat too low on rear as lowering springs were for the Golf not Octavia! now sits a little higher than the front, future plan is to fit the modded top mounts off ebay which lowers front by another 10mm without having any effect on comfort, I will then prob refit the lowered rear springs.

replaced the N249 valve as I broke one of the plastic inlets when simplifying the vac system, but discovered its leaking vacuum so need to investigate into that more.

now for the not so good bits,

i was forced into a kirb a couple weeks ago and kirbed the drivers rear wheel, so will need to touch that up.

Been having difficulty getting the boot fully shut as the seal had stretch and was sagging! so took a trip up to chesterfield to see vrsmatt. Got a drivers door latch, passanger rear door latch, boot seal and passanger front wing.

fitted the boot seal and thats sorted the problem.

also, few weeks ago I went to Northampton to my niece's christening. Ive been having issues with the remote locking so currently have to lock the doors with the key in lock rather than remote. so this day I opened the boot as I was wanting my camera out, but then locked the car with the boot still open. gave the keys to mum to put in handbag with phone, and I got camera and shut the boot, not knowing she'd placed bag in boot whilst she put her coat on. so now my keys were locked in the boot!

A couple of bloke were more than happy to try and help pry the top of door open in attempt to open from inside whilst I was in church, but when I came out it wasnt good. not only had the failed to get in, but had caused quite a bit of damage to the paint work on the top of door and roof! Clearly realising there was no other way, I decided to smash the rear quarter glass, I was then able to pull the resr seats down and reach into the boot to for the bag witg my keys in.

So, was I got back it was another trip to vrsmatt for glass and drivers door seal.

Today Ive attempeted to change the drivers door latch, but with no luck. 1st off, I had to relace the microswitch on the replacement latch as this wasnt working, struggled to screw it into place so just used epoxy resin whuch seems to have a strong hold on it, got the door panel off, door lock out, all set to remove the latch and I could only remove one bolt, the other was so tight I stripped all the splines, so seems Im gonna have to drill it out or get a nut welded onto it so I can the undo it! so Ive just put everything back for now, hopefully get onto this again this week.

To make use of this afternoon, I set about sorting the damaged paint on the door and roof.

I will update more on this tomorrow and get some pictures uploaded.

Thats the correct way round isnt it?

I thought boost should be against the bottom of the piston, in its current position the boost is from turbo is directed at the side of the piston

I think this is quite a common arguement but personally I'd leave it as it is because any slight weakness in the spring would cause you to have a boost leak if you fitted it the other way round, the way you have it now that can"t happen.
