Just tell me if its possible....

Featured Replies

R32 internals - gearbox, engine, 4*4 system etc...into a stripped 1.4 8v Furby chassis?

including brakes hubs etc. i've got access to a machine shop and several engineer mateys....all fully qualified and well up for a 'sleeper' car to be made.

any rough idea of costs? or is the mk3 gold VR6 engine a better bet?

any help gladly appreciated.

Principally I guess yes, but I reckon mega bulkhead hacking out would be needed to get that MASSIVE block inside the engine bay.

With enough expertise, time and effort, you could fit a V16 truck engine into a Mini.

It's not quite that extreme, but it's certainly doable. Quite why you'd want to bother with all the expense and hassle is beyond me, but go for it anyway.

Got to be harder than an Octy-R32 conversion because the basic floorpan's different, but certainly it's possible.

I guess you're going to need to do some cutting to get that 4x4 system in there.

Check out the red Mk1 Golf made by a guy called Ben Leach. It runs a Rallye 4WD system and 20VT. And it looks completely standard. Awesome. He cut the spare wheel well out and had to raise a part of the floor to get the rear differential in.

My vote goes on a 20VT before you look at a VR6.

:iagree: Much easier to work with for sure.

pah, don

Go for it!! The wider track and awsome exhaust note might give a few folks a clue, but what a machine that will be. A tuning company years ago put cossie 4x4 engine and running gear in a Dimma Pug 205 to great effect. Wasn't really a sleeper as such cos of the Dimma conversion, but the figures were mighty impressive.

Yeah OK OK - R32.

The split Golf was a TVR floorpan, running gear and engine. See it and it is very odd

There was a 944 based golf in PVW a while ago.

Best ones I saw were 2 Ford KAs, one with Evo VI running gear and one with Escort Cosworth. Running gravel rally suspension they looked slightly taller than standard, but, bu99er, they was quick :D

that was a different one, but the same idea, only thing is that one looked ****, the porsche one was well finished

i tell you what, i'll dig the mag out just now to quench the curiosity ;)

k, well we're going to start looking at the costs/benefits of the varying types of engines etc and seeing exactly what we CAN do with the axles/driveshafts on the underside of the car etc. but ideally we do want it running VAG engine gear purely from a cost/avaliability point of view.

will let you know what we come up with.

Well R32 fits in a MKIII with a supercharger, at least I think its the MKIII golf, was at JBS a while back.

Either way it will not be cheap, but anything is possible. I thin I read about a punto with a TT 20v in it...now thats just now funny.

It's a Mk2 Golf and it sounds really good, belongs to a guy called John I used to work with. It's defo not 4wd and I don't think it uses the R32 box either.

As you say though it's supercharged and looks fairly stock, the under bonnet installtion is particularly neat. :D

Not heard of the punto with the TT engine but there's definetely a TT engined Clio.

There's a Renault 5 with a 20VT in it. Saw it last weekend - it wasn't working very well.

Was speaking about this today to a mechanic who does a hell-load of VAG engine conversions, and he reckoned go for a 20VT as it is only 25bhp or so down on the R32, and is loads lighter, smaller, easier to fit and will still provide a mind-blowing drive. Plus it could be chipped over the power of a standard R32 anyway.
