How rare is yours?

Featured Replies

As someone who doesn't like to 'run with the crowd' so much, I like to think my choice of cars reflects the 'thinking' nature of my motoring decisions.

I have often bought a vehicle that is a bit 'off the radar' so to speak, only for friends of mine to be a little surprised, discuss the new purchase with me, and then realise that they might have missed a trick! :D

Anyway, this brought me to buying my lovely 51 plate Black Octy VRs a few years ago. Again, it caused a bit of a stir, until people looked closely at it, came out in it, and recognised all the massive advantages that everyone on here already know about...

A bargain buy, capable, fast and refined etc. - amazing for a 12 year old, and pretty rare.

I still thought that these cars are a bit of a 'well kept secret', and I was also delighted that I very rarely saw another one on the roads, and usually when I do on the odd occasion, they seem to be sliver ones.

Until this summer.

Left my house on foot a couple of months back, and upon walking into the close adjacent to mine, I find an almost identical Black VRs parked up...oh well, I enjoyed seeing that despite it being of a similar age to mine, it was also apparently equally well cared for.

Then last week, I leave for work, and feck me - yet another black VRs on a '53 plate this time, just round the corner in the same road!

Seen both of them on numerous occasions since, so they're clearly owned by the houses they're parked outside, and not just visitors.

So...that makes x3 black Mk.1 Octy VRs's residing within 100 yards of each other...bloody Ford Focus's are rarer round here now! :D

Anyone else got any living near them?

I know what you mean, I like to think that my red y 2001 vr is rare aint ever except in pictures on here seen another red one! I know i will probably see one tomorrow now lol

Lolz!

Actually I was parked in Tescos about a month ago, sat in mine scoffing sandwiches that had been procured from said vendor momentarily before... :D

And what should drive across in front of my parking space, but a really lovely, shiny red Mk. 1. As it crawled by, I could see that the wheels had recently been re-furbed too, they were perfect.

She looked a million dollars in my opinion! Really lovely, standing out very well without being ostentatious, just looking fine from every angle.

I do like my stealth black one, and enjoy the - albeit tenuous - connections to unmarked plod. But that said, I would own a red one tomorrow quite happily - they look mighty fine! Enjoy yours :D

Mine's pretty rare around here :)

They sold about 800 Mk1 Octavia and Fabias combined in the whole of NZ.

I have seen two other red vRS Estates in Wellington over the last 8 years, neither particularly well looked after, scuffs on the corners etc.

Rob, when you emigrated did you take the Octy with you or buy it in NZ?

I know this feeling, bought a felicia fun cos there smart, different and rare,

Fella at the other end of the village does the same 2 months later

I have even had people say how "mint" it is

I stopped and had a nose, oh how I laughed,180k of mint

Well at least it's a form of flattery or so I'm told.

Funny because there's literally dozens of them just in Witney and Carterton. And most of them seem to be black. There's even at least another two black vRS Estates round here. Couple of yellows, fair few silvers, and at least three reds.

Black ones are fastest hence there everywhere

Altho in rochdale ive seen about 3 others on a regular basics

Bought it at DM Keith in Leeds :)

At 18 months old it was cheaper to ship it than take the loss on selling it.

In my town live about 20.000 people

There are 3 vRS i think but a lot of Octavia 1(1.4,1.6,1.8 and diesel)

Whereabouts on the south coast? I got mine, and found three other black vRS' in the same town, along with a couple of red, silver and yellow ones!

I tend to see more fabia vrs's than octys round here,

There is a black one i see regular and saw a another red one with a lass driving it but it seems to have dissapeared

MkI vRS models are rare around my way... however the majority of the cab firms round here use MKI diesels. Okay, they aren't vRS's but it still dilutes my car a little.

Then there's these b******s:

Thankfully they pulled all of their MkI vRS's out of service (mainly because the numpties kept sumping them) and now use the above.

Drowning in a sea of Skodas :(

I've only seen 1 other yellow vRS locally

There's even a yellow vRS taxi around here. :D

My black one to date is the only one I've seen in the place I hate to call home but a silver mk1 made his prescence known to me the other day but its the fabia's round this way ..... Think we got one of each colour floating around.... :)

I live in a market town pop 7000 I have an 04 plate black one there's a 55 plate black one which is a typical neglected farmers car and that's it

There is another black MK1 Fab vRS down the road from me - standard............always covered in filth and I have NEVER seen it clean!!

I can never understand people who do not give a s..t about their cars, OK the vRS is not uber RARE but MOST owners are car loving people!

Quite rare that I see another mk1 VRS. See a fair few more than when I had an Integra Type R DC2 or gen 6 Celica though.

The VRS is a rare care tbh, I only have seen 2 others where I live. A silver one and another red one. When I drive past them they give me a little peep :)

Never ever seen another Vrs any colour round ere :)

It use to be just 3 including myself, now there are loads! I like being the most unique one though.

My brothers got one so that's the rarity gone as soon as we get together. One other knocking around the town we live in as far as I know.

Mine's constantly caked in crud. Some of us have families who scratch them, care little about them, and very busy lives (my band, kids tennis/swimming/rugby/cricket/football). I have no time to clean and polish at all, as much as I would like to. Nor the money to do it away from home. As least she's kept well underneath the clothes.

Personally I wouldn't have said the vRS is rare at all in Octavia guise. I see very nearly as many vRS's as I do other models round these parts, and that's the truth.
