Interior Illumination

Need some help please fellow Briskodians

Since picking up my ex-demo I have noticed a problem with the backlights on some of the switches.

The ESP. Stop/Start and Mode switch are not backlit faint green at night with the headlights on, (confirmed b dealer that they should be), the two small LED downlighters to light up the centre console at night don't work (confirmed by dealer as a fault) and also I have noticed that the headlight switch doesn't illuminate the outer ring in faint green - AUTO is lit in orange when the lights are on and the centre of the switch illuminates, but not the outer ring. I have only just noticed this so can someone confirm that is should be backlit faintly at night?

Also, there is no illumination on the indicator and washer stalks - I am sure that on the Octy 2 these were backit faintly at night as well. Can someone please confirm ref the Headlight Switch and the stalks?

The flappy paddles and steering wheel are backlit, as well as the heater controls, and these seem to dim correctly.

I have the following fault code logged, which to me may point to a faulty headlight switch, but the dealer has ordered a new overhead light console and a new set of switches for the centre console.

If anyone is close to me and wants to loan me their headlight switch for 10 seconds it would be appreciated :-)

Stalks are not back lit, on any octavia.

Fair enough - must have imagined it on the Octy 2 then :-)

Is the Outer ring on your headlight switch backlit?

What do you mean by the outer ring? All that's illuminated on mine is all the little symbols....

The ones that are on a ring around the switch? - the 2 foglight symbols, 0, Auto, Sidelights, Headlights

Do they all glow faint green at night when the lights are on - on mine Auto is backlit orange, but all of the others are not backlit at all. The centre of the switch (the bit that you turn) is backlit fine.

Yes all the symbols around the outside light up green, the Auto lights up orange and when the lights come on the side light symbol gets brighter green.

Excellent, so my light switch is faulty as well.

Too much of a coincidence that 3 sets of interior illumination don't work - I reckon I am in for them waiting months for parts, swapping them all over and then scratching their heads because it still isn't fixed as the fault is elsewhere.

Any Master Techs about with any ideas on this one?

I wonder if they are all on the same fuse?

  • Author

Maybe - but it has been back to them once - the outcome - order some parts.

They didn't even notice that the ones around the light switch weren't working, so I have no faith that they have done any investigation and are relying on just swapping parts over until it magically works. This is after they called me to say that the interior illumination was working, and I said I know it is, it is the the two led downlighters that aren't - the response was along the lines of 'I didn't know they had LED downlighters'.

I reckon that the light switch is likely to be the root cause as that controls the circuit!

If they can't get the parts in a reasonable time, hopefully they will nick a few bits off a demo car to try and identify the problem!

I'm giving them until next week then they can start dismantling a car in the showroom.

I've waited over a week already, I used to work at a main dealers and if the parts didn't turn up in a week you were in for a 3 month wait in my experience as they had to pinch them direct from the stock allocated to factory production.

Looking at the fuse assignments interior illumination is all on one fuse along with the visor for xenon discharge lamps.

As my Xenons are working fine, and so is some other interior illumination, I don't think it is that.

Time to swap some parts with a demo/showroom car I think.

If they can't get the parts the next working day I would be ****ed off! FFS it's a Skoda, Not a Mark I Ford.

How many taxis ?

Their limited supply makes me think they are expecting a burst bubble.... very soon. Something aint right here.  I recently sent a USB drive to a oil well in Kazakhstan, the last 25 miles of which was 1 person in jeep following a GPS reference. It arrived in 4 days. Shipping is easy. (unless you don't have it)
