Passenger Seat Stuck

Featured Replies

My passenger seat is stuck. It appears that a lighter has got jammed in the runners and when I moved seat all the way back to straighten the mat, it got jammed and will not move at all now.

How easy is it to remove the seat to sort it? I've never really looked at them to see. I have removed seats in the past so I'd guess it's the same, 4 bolts on each seat with 2 on each runner?

Depends if you can get to the parts you need to unscrew.

If it's just a plastic lighter can you move the seat enough to ram it out or break it. Although that's not ideal as you don't want the gas going everywhere I suppose.

Or if you fancy a challenge, even the plastic lighters have metal on them don't they? So I don't suppose with a magnet you could manage to work the lighter to a place you can pull it out?

Similar thread within the last week re a brio.

Unless the seat was adjusted fully forwards or backwards, you should be able to get something in to work it lose.

Failing that try a very narrow chisel, place it on the body of the lighter and strike it smartly to break it.

All you will need to do is collect the broken bits (and mop up the fluid, if you didn't place some cloth under the runner).

Moral - don't smoke in your car?

Could have been a passenger with a lighter in his/her pocket though, so moral should be make you always wear tracksuit bottoms with zipped pockets :giggle:

Thanks for the above advice.

As for the "moral" (ha) I don't smoke. It is under the passenger seat so will have fallen out their bag/pocket while in my car. I don't allow people to smoke in my car.

You know they say about Assumption being the mother of all **** ups don't you?

Whoa, just trying to help, and add a bit of humour!

Aside from that, can you move the seat at all to get to where the lighter is?

M8 spline bit for the bolts, may or may not be some electrics to unplug underneath; pretty quick and easy removal either way.  Be careful when refitting, cross-threading is likely to end in tears.

All depends if the seat can be moved forward to access the bolts :/

Depending on where the lighter is, removal of the rear seats would give you more room to access underneath :)

Seat is fully back (sliding) I have tried to push it to the back but the other end has no opening for it to come out.

Looks like it will be a seat out job. I don't have the tools for it as my shed got broken into, so it will have to wait until Christmas when I get a new tool kit.

Thanks for the help guys.

I said thanks for the help ^^^

Only way I can see it is if I look down the runner from the passenger footwell. And it appears to be as far back as it can go. There is no access to it from the rear footwell as the end of the runner is closed off.

Here's what to do, get onto the motorway and plant ur right foot on that accelerator pedal and when no-ones behind you slam on the brakes as hard as you can and the lighter will fly out  :p (hopefully)

Willa suitably bent wire coat hanger, surreptitiously inserted along the runner, hook it out if you can't get to the seat retaining bolts?

Could be a good idea mate. Need to source a hanger though lol.

I'm having the same problem mate, so frustrating! I bought one of those magnetic pick up tools to try fetch it out but no luck.

Source your hangers from a local dry cleaners if you don't have a wire one to hand

Managed to strike it and dislodge the lighter enough to be able to slide the seat forward to access all 4 spline bolts and remove the seat. I bought new bolts from the dealer @ 84p each for when I put the seat back in.
