A whiring sound coming from near side rear wheel

Featured Replies

Ive had my octavia vrs since tuesady and ive started hearing a whiring sound coming from the rear nearside wheel.I dont think its the wheel bearing because there is no play in it could anyone hazard a guess to what it could be before I kick off at the dealer who I bought it from .

Cheers people

Tyre noise. Common problem apparently.

+1 for tyre noise.

When it first happened on mine I thought the wheel bearing was failing but it checked out Ok. The noise has got worse as he tyre wears.

Check the inside of the tyre. Could be a bit of sawtoothing if it's a bit scuffed. Alignment on a hunter rig might help.

yap, VAG problem...happened the same with my 2004 mk4 VW Golf

I got a whirring noise from my front wheel , the brake disc back plate had corroded and fell onto the wheel .

It's usually out of spec rear camber causing sawtoothing of the tyre tread.  Skoda may check and realign it for free if the car is under warranty but you will have to buy two new tyres first.

Id guess it could be wheel bearing. You will not get any play as modern bearings don,t wobble when they fail.

My nearside bearing on 59 plate failed ar 3 years, previous octy nearside failure at 4 years.

I think its about £150.00 fitted.

Try swapping your tyres back to front, that'll help you identify the problem..
