Featured Replies

My wife is in the process of plotting my death - Took the corner into our narrow driveway to tight, wasn't really concentrating, bit tired and scraaaaaatch :(

The damage is to driver side rear door and wheel arch

How much is this going to cost me?

A few hundred quid at least as you will need the metallic paint blown in along the side of the car, it is worth getting a few quotes and then go from there.

Remember, nobody was hurt, just a scratch on the car and it can be fixed, look what I did to mine last November.

And this was repaired to look as good as new.

:o About 12 months washing cooking and other domestic duty's  ,  The cost will depend on if they can do it without having to put a new skin on the door.

Depends if it needs a door skin.

If so you''ll be looking around £800 I'd have thought.

Around half that otherwise IMO.

My wife is in the process of plotting my death ...

Nasty.  Deep sympathy, regarding both the Monster and your domestic outlook!

Plus about another £1000 to widen the gateway etc

Sympathies.

Quote from the mother-in-law from a couple of years ago:  "You moved that gatepost while I was out", the gatepost in question being solid granite about 6 feet high and very heavy.

Is the door skin that plastic proctection bit at the bottom that thins out when it meets the wheel arch?

The outer door skin is the complete outer part of the door.

As it costs in excess of £300 to get the paint gun out it looks like a new skin as the damage is on feature lines and impossible to restore without excessive labour and lots of filler.

Suprised if you get change from £1000.

Last week I had two tiny scratches on each rear panel behind the rear door repaired. Not much bigger than stone chips. Complete re spray of panels required and costed £340. So with that door as well.............................

Yes few have the skill to do good localised repair to paint damage because it is difficult to blend the clear lacquer coat which involves using a mix of solvent and lacquer to melt it into the existing clear coat, otherwise it just forms a layer with an edge that can't be polished out. That's why most respray the whole panel.

And yes the people I used are also experts at on the spot mobile chip repairs but thankfully also have a proper paint shop which they insisted on using. It was an absolutely perfect job so I am well pleased.

I was quoted £660 last week for similar damage to mine (by a taxi). That was for a similar dent in the back door, and refinishing the back wheel.

I think the prices quoted are very fair.....provided the work is high quality. Painting is an expensive process requiring a large investment by the operator.

I had some repairs on my Tiguan 4 years ago to 'blow in' 3 scratches and that was £350. And I have to say it was not perfect and every time I approached the car the different colour hue shouted at me (silver).

I wished I'd paid £50 more for a perfect job. You live and learn as they say.

The quote I had included blending the paint into the front door and the panel aft of the back door so that there wouldn't be a visible shift, plus replacing the two door mouldings and the sill protector.

May I ask who gave you that quote?

Riverside motors in Guildford. The car has now gone to DWS in Weybridge though as they're the insurance company's preferred repairer.

Redhill Vehicle Body Repairs Ltd

Will let you know how they do - dropped it in this morning

Found them on here http://www.carbodyrepairquotes.co.uk/tag/carbodybids-2/

£325?! Bloomin'eck  -  That'll barely cover the cost of materials...

In-Law has my Old Superb, and it's been Keyed on one door... Skoda dealer say £900 and that's just minor compared to this...
