4th year vRS Tsi service

Featured Replies

It's not due until next May but what is included in the 4th year service? I have a 2 year service plan but not sure what's included. I'll be getting the cambelt changed even though the car won't be on 15k miles at the time for piece of mind. Anyone know how much it cost for the cambelt, water pump and tensioners? Is there anything else i should get changed then?

If your car is a TSI it doesnt have a cambelt, its a chain so you dont need to worry about replacing it at 4 years like a cambelt.

So these never need replaced? What about the water pump and tensioners? I just don't want the tensionor to fail and i'll need a new engine.

There has been some cases of the timing chain tensioners failing on the TSI engine, you could pay a garage to replace the chain & tensioner if you want, ive no idea what that would cost, the water pump isnt driven off the chain.

Do you know how often/mileage the water pump gets replaced?

It will get replaced as/when it leaks or the bearings fail, there is no set mileage or time that it should be replaced.

Chain, tensioner and new cover @ £750.00 at an Indy.

My car is also nearly due it's 4th year service, when I spoke to the dealer they said it required a Cambelt and water pump change although I was under the impression it was a belt...But just for reference it was £350 for the Cambelt and £100 for the water pump ( not as much as I expected)

The TSI engine fitted in the later octavia's (facelift models & the odd limited etd) have a timing chain so no cambelt to replace, the TFSI engines fitted to the pre facelift octavia has a cambelt  fitted.

Ye I emailed them earlier to clarify as I was pretty sure they weren't right....so much for dealers knowing what's what. Turns out like you say, it is a chain.

cheers !!

Problem with using Indy's is if the Tensioner fails  Skoda will wash there hands of you, if you use a dealer you may get some goodwill

There is a thread about 1.8 / 2.0L tensioner failures, I'd read it
