Octavia vRS, better than an Audi A7?

Have to agree. A bi turbo A7 compared to a VRS? No contest which I'd prefer to own. You can say the VRS is lighter and more dynamic but then a Fiesta ST is more so than the Octavia VRS. Bi turbo A7 for me all day long - even better with a Shark Performance remap - not that I've considered it of course. ;)

Skoda are obviously scaring some manufacturers... email I received from a determined German dealer:

Hi Fiisch,

We’ve looked into this for you, and I’ve got a couple of choices for you;

If we look at a BMW 118 coupe, it works out around £400 per month, and a BMW 116i (new shape), works out at £345 per month.

There’s a very cynical way of looking at this, which is that at BMW we haven’t yet reached the point where we need to give 0% APR, or free servicing because our cars are still selling…  The likes of Skoda, Vauxhall, Renault, etc have to do 0% finance and give away free bits & pieces because their cars are barely selling!

When a dealer/manufacturer says that they’re giving away free servicing, etc then they build the cost of the servicing into the price of the car so they aren’t out of pocket!

As I said, that’s very cynical of me, but it’s quite correct.  If you’d like to look closer at the BMW, then we can do so Fiisch.

Regards,

Ze Germans

I think someone at BMW needs to check their facts, Octavias not selling? I doubt you'd have to wait 6 months for a middle of the range 1 series!!!!

Driven my dads A7 - I actually dislike it, but not because of the engine.

To me it feels like flying a space shuttle, you are not driving you are operating a UFO. The HUD is plain annoying, there are far far too many buttons and on top of that nothing is really that logical.

I say that as a geek for my day job (IT) and someone who has a love of flying / aircraft - the thing is on the road I've got to worry about everyone else not which of the 1024 buttons I need to press just to mute the sat nav!

It is a big car though, with loads of boot space, and it's nice in the back / passenger seat - just not nice to drive, it's too confusing!

Welcome to the skoda club Andrew. I had an audi a4 for two months after my vrs was rear ended, was glad to get back in a skoda, didn't like the lack of feel in the drive. Yes, the audi was built well, and all you would expect from a marque manufacturer, but just wasn't for me. Looking forward to my new vrs (my third) when it arrives early next year.

Hi Paul,

really impressed with the car, and the engine is superb.., I can't wait to see how well it goes once we've added a CRD-T ;)

A little dickie bird did tell me that we have access to some dyne figures this next week too.

.

In a way, this sounds a bit like the former Boxster owner (now MX-5 owner) I described here:

Couldn't agree more, the A7 is a fantastic car but a totally different animal. A great cruiser, and straight line performed was blistering, but the fun factor was minimal I'm comparison to the vRS :)

My next comparison will be against the rs4 :) now that should be fun

More powerful and more expensive is not always better in terms of driving pleasure - or just sheer fun!

As good as the vRS is reported to be I doubt you will prefer it over the RS4 you have on order.

I had one for a weekend earlier this month, and what a hoot it was to drive. My S4 is mapped & is as quick in a straight line as the RS4, but lacks the noise & character of the V8. Something about revving through to 9k really does it for me :)

The handling & turning of the RS4 also is superb, forget the understeer ridiculing Audi's get, you can actually get the tail out on them (you gotta really try though :D ).

I love my S4 but the RS4 is my next car :)
