Musings of a Mad Man: Mk2 Fabia VRS TDI...

Featured Replies

Ha thats the can do attitude!! Don't think I'll be doing any engine swaps. 2.0PD was a bit of a funny one wasn't it, old reliable engine made slightly bigger and broken in the process...

Well, it's basically what I did with my PD100 Fabia - but I didn't stop @ 200 - I've not really stopped @ 300 either.   :D

I always quite fancied an Ibiza Cupra TDi, PD 150 lump with a little extra power again; rapid as standard but with a little money could be turned into a real flyer. Already have decent (brembo) brakes, some mild suspension work (thinking possubly coilovers and polybushes) and it'd be pretty sweet. Trouble is finding a good one that hasnt done a million miles, been ragged or boy'd up.

This one maybe?

Back on topic I'd go for the Ibiza FR - it's one of the cars that I had/have ear marked as a potential replacement for one of our Fabias.

It's strange that Seat decided to put the CR lump in the Ibiza but Skoda decided not to put it in the Fabia, especially given the success of the mk1 VRs with essentially the same set up.

The crazy world of car manufacturers I guess.

Also the 1.9PD doesn't have a dpf either :)

I wasn't sure, some 1.9s were afflicted with them in other models.

but it does have EGR unless you delete it out

but other option is a  Monte 1.6CR either variant, standard map takes you to 130bhp+ then once you start doing other mods you can probably get it higher, not seen many doing it but a couple on here I believe had had their monte's mapped I think

Looks like the Monte would be harder work than the Ibiza FR to get 'up to spec' so to speak, its missing mod cons like rear disc brakes, which I find very odd. But it is cheap.

Not many people have gone for 200 on the 1.6CR yet, where as the 2.0 can get pretty close with just a remap.
