Don't upset me.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for anything VAG moreso with 4 rings

Me too. Anything with an RS badge (apart from the TT and 3) and I'm sold.

Currently trying to change my RS 5 for an R8 V10. Watch this space.

I was going to ask Nick... won't that mean you need a daily drive as well for the kiddies.

Yes I'll get some diesel type machine (I feel sick saying it).

R8 for trips on my own.

Trouble is the RS 5 does it all for my family of three.

If I get this new job I'll net an extra couple of grand each month which means R8 time! Fingers crossed.

Stick at 3, our family was 4, then earlier this year became 5 (still room in an rs4/6), and June next year it's becoming 6..

So enjoy your R8, I'm not bitter at all %#**^ :) as I'm looking forward to my T5 transporter

Nick knows how I feel, the Audi brand is best served in RS4 or RS6 guise IMO.

A seriously quick estate with amazing practicality and performance.  RS Avant.

If I wanted the impracticality of 2 seats and the amazing price it would have be something exotic.

3 or 4 year old Ferrari if you want to pose, or join the 911 boys.

Spending £100k+ on an R8 (I know they are cheaper old with the naff auto) and then spending all day driving around people with the same make car, but with the same running gear as a Skoda and a little diesel engine just doesn't make sense to me.

Not to mention the fact that they are not based on the latest tech inside either, it's electrics are directly related to the previous A3 I believe.

RS6 Avant or 3.0 diesel A6 All-Road FTW. B)

But hey, we can't all like the same stuff...

Having had GT-Rs tends to mean the far more expensive but slower/less capable stuff with a fairly normal badge doesn't make much sense.

It's not badge snobbery (I have Skodas and Nissans :giggle: ) but I just think the high performance Avants are where it's at if you want a fairly common "premium" badge on your car.

Congrats on sprog 4 incoming... I have number 2 incoming in 2 or 3 weeks.  I think that's enough for me! :D

Two of my recent cars:

- Volvo V70 D5 Polestar year 2011 (3 months to go until changing it to Superb)

- Saab 9-5 Aero year 2008 (had for 3 years before Volvo)

Best car i've had is by far the Integra however the 106 gti is in close second! Love a high revving engine!!

Some nice cars you've had Tom!

Thanks mate :) shame i had to sell the integra really..but saving for a house is sooooo expensive! Miss it like mad!

  • 2 months later...

Was talking about first car at work this morning so though i'd add my history here
almost started a new thread but then found this one

not pics of the actual cars but you'll get the idea

Learnt to drive on the farm at 14 in a mighty Diahatsu Fourtrak

D8D79DFAF7FBDB3B371D1461297.jpg

learnt to road drive in a old school Nissasn Micra
I actually had 2. One for the road and one to constantly raid for parts! :D

Nissan_Micra_1982_Cambridge.jpg

"Upgraded" to a Fiat Uno
It was a stolen recovered in which they had simply stuck a crow bar in the top of the door and bent the window frame out to get in.
My dad bent it back into place, replaced the glass and gave it to me, cost him £99 and cost me £1000 to insure.
I also had to use 3 rolls of self adhesive draft excluder foam to "beef up" the seals which no longer fitted the bent door frame :D

Fiat_Uno_CS.JPG

I replaced that with a Ford Escort TDI LX no less

Another car my dad had "laid his hands on" and ripped me off to buy off him.

Was a great step up to 90 turbo'd horses from the 40 odd of the 1.0 litre uno.

never failed to break down though.

The fuel tank was dented so if you had less than a half a tank it stopped running.

The heater matrix melted completely filling the passenger footwell with water.

The wiper motor stopped working if you put them on the highest speed setting for too long (useful in downpours!)

EscortH92.jpg

eventually i just bailed out when the alternator died and my dad "found" me a peugeot 309

Was actually a nice car, had the GTI pepper pot alloys despite being a 1.3

never broke only flaw was it was "gold" although i'm certain the V5 said the offical colour was beige!!

Peugeot___309_Gold%20metallic.JPG

Drive the 309 to tide me over while my first "proper" car was repair after an accident (see a theme appearing here)

Seat Ibiza S

97 P plate mk2 in red (apart from the repaired panels which were a bit oranger)

Even put a set of TSW alloys it and it last for years.

seat-ibiza-hatchback-1999.jpg

eventually we needed something a bit more modern and a bit safer when she started commuting durnig her placement year at Uni

Enter stage left a Fiat Punto ELX TDI

00175942_0026_800_01680463_175942_1.jpg

did the job but was pretty woeful.

Was a lovely step up from the Ibiza but ooknig back it was pretty dreadful.

Gear stick stopped self centering after a particularly optimistic traffic light grand prix against a mk4 Golf :)

Eventually part-ex'd it in against an early Seat Ibiza mk4 PD130 Sport

Looked like this one although it was less clean, and more shades of yellow.

Dark at the bottom of the panels, getting steadily lighter the further up the car you went and then with a totally different pastel yelow plastic spoiler

There was also a larger orangey patch on the rear 3/4 where the mazda garage i bought it off had resprayed it follow

306299_206936846046764_100001913516700_5

Daily commutes piled the miles on and eventually traded it in for our red Fabia VRS

had low mileage at the time and was at a decent price. I'd also grown to love the PD130 punch (especially following he Forge remap on the Ibiza i which probably explained the Jabba remap 2 days after buying the Fabia)

IMG_1216.jpg

That got modified and has stayed with us until a couepl of weeks ago wheni it was written off. sad times.

In the interim a house moved prompted the purchase of a second car so i made plumped for anotehr mk2 Ibiza.

This time a 8v GTi version.

Driven for 12 months and never let me down.

Did have the fuel tank drilled which then obviously needed replacing but that's hardly the cars fault.

did a couple of track days in it and despite being underpowered compared to the Fabia is was an excellent car.

Brilliant Handling

IMG_0360.jpg

This was then replace with a second Fabia VRS when one came up for sale at a decent price locally and the red car was fast approaching 100k

IMG_6560.jpg

That car survives and has just past 70k.

So there we have it. the biggest dilema of all is taking place at the moment trying to decide what to do when the insurance eventually pay out.

Do i buy something cheap to batter around in (i only do 14 miles a day to work and back) or something cheap and sporty for the odd trakday, or lump the settlement money in to a deposit for a larger newer car for Mrs Pasty to commute in and i'll take over the Fabia.

Or do i then sell that too buying something newer and bigger for her and something smaller and cheaper for me?

oh the possibilities are endless

My first car

93A3AD56-C24D-44C4-BDBC-F73BBF45713F_zps

Was cammed, full decat exhaust - 140 odd bhp so much fun!

This was my second car

920c0e53.jpg

1 of 300 made - TDCI sport

My 3rd car when I bought it....

d3b07fe8.jpg

Bonnet was quickly removed to look like this when I sold it. Was loud! Recorded at 111db. Used to spit and pop like mad with the odd flame thanks to the TAPE ECU on the puma 1.7 engine :)

SSL20845.jpg

And the Fabia!

Then

My trusty old 306 xsi which I gave to my sister when I bought the Octavia. Was a great car and I put it back to standard before I got rid.

Then a Pug 106 (no pics) with a 5" exhaust despite only having a 900cc engine.

1.1 litre polo breadvan. Chipped, rocket launcher exhaust and fake leather seat covers.
