Radiator Fan Keeps Running?

Featured Replies

Has happened a few times now but when I turn the engine off the radiator fan keeps running. Might be ok and should have asked here before but normally I fix by turning engine back on and off a few times.

Is this normal and will it just turn itself off? Its a 10 plate Skoda Superb Elegance.

Thanks

If you have a diesel its possible that your DPF has been going through a regeneration process. It runs on longer due to the high temperatures reached in this process.

+1 on the above. If it is a diesel and the fans are going flat out you've most likely interupted a regen when the dpf runs hotter than usual to burn off the soot its collected. Classic tell tale sign is engine tickover increases to around 1000 rpm while regen is active. If you interupt one the fans come on to cool the dpf down and this cycle will continue when you drive the car next time until a regen cycle is completed. Nothing to worry about as long as you don't keep having unsuccessful regens. There's a leaflet on suk's website- search for dpf

Yes sorry it is diesel. Sounds like nothing to worry about. Thanks

Although it’s nothing to worry about ideally you should not interrupt the regen cycle. (keep driving the car at highish revs - 2,000 ish)

Once it happened to me, the weather was cold.
I started with cold engine, and the trip was only 8km.
When I stopped the engine, the fan runs still about 2 minutes.
On the next week I call the Skoda service centre, he scheduled me an appointment.

In the service centre connected my car into VW Ag. official computer, was not any error at all.

The mechanic could not tell me what was the cause of the fan "overrun".
