Do I have grounds to reject the car? And do you think I should?

Thanks all, as I expected, a fair spread of opinions.

I hope it does come back on Tuesday as it went in in terms of dash fit etc.

I appreciate the satnav is a minor issue, it is the loom and possible future wiring issues that concern me. As has been said, I can't reject a car on the grounds that something may happen.

As I stated earlier, I do t want to reject, but if it isn't 100% I will be looking closely at my options.

"the illumination of the stop/start, mode switch etc. not working unless selected and glowing orange."

This is as per design?  Mine doesn't illuminate unless selected, even at night.

The catch 22 here is all the time the car is being fixed and time goes by you are loosing money in depreciation when you manage to reject the car.

You need to act quick if you do want to reject.

I hope the fix goes well.

Pretty sure you have to give them a reasonable amount of opportunities to resolve the issue. 3 IIRC

Wrong, checked it on another car. They should be faintly backlit green at night with the lights on, same as all the other switches.

There is a photo on here of the interior of a vrs at night, showing all the switches illuminated. Can't find it from my phone though.

Maybe its just me and a bit more forgiving but just let them fix it and get back on the road?  You are ready to pounce on them for the slightest squeak or rattle.  Nature of the beast with cars to make small noises when moving.

As you said "over the moon with it in terms of the drive and spec etc." why wouldn't you be over the moon with it again when fixed.

Cars are complicated stuff and sometimes they need to be taken to pieces to fix small problems.

Sounds to me that dealer is doing all they can right now - do you have reasonable grounds to reject the car?  I don't think so.  Not a major/catastrophic or cumulative ongoing fault.  Thats what warranties are for.

I am not ready to pounce on them, BUT I purchased a car without any rattles etc.

The fault was existing at the point of sale (and manufacture), I was asking is it grounds to reject and should I?

If it comes back rattle free, no scratches and everything aligned correctly I will be accepting it, but I now have a car that I know has had the equivalent of open heart surgery to the dashboard. This will be forever at the back of my mind.

If it had been repaired before I bought it then I would be none the wiser, but as I stated earlier, if it had been full of rattles when I test drove it I would have walked away.

I may come across as trying to reject the car, but I am not. I worked for almost a decade at a main dealers, and the quality of repairs of this nature can vary wildly between two different technicians. Lets just say I have seen some of the worse repairs ever, as well as some of the best.

New cars are protected by the Sale of Goods Act, 1979, which means that you have a right to expect it to be of ‘satisfactory quality’.

In English this means it should get you from A to B without breaking down, it should be fit for use, as described and free of faults.

If a new car is faulty (i.e it falls outside of that definition), you can reject it, but this should be a last resort and only after you’ve tried to resolve any issues with the dealer.

'Faulty' is subjective, of course; Skoda will argue that a trim that rattles doesn't indicate a fault.

That's the definitive legal position (my spouse is a solicitor).

...but this should be a last resort...

And this is the answer to the op and not the first option.

Q - Do I have grounds to reject the car?

A - No

Q - And do you think I should?

A - No

Sorry to hear of your problems. Bear in mind that my dash rattles occasionally and thats NOT been stripped out, although a lot could be down to the fact that my car vibrates anyway due to problems discussed in another thread. Personally I would not risk having the loom replaced as that will involve even more stripping down of the car and give rise to even more potential for damage to components / connectors / trim etc. A repaired wire or two (done correctly) is very unlikely in itself to cause further faults in the future. I would be more concerned about damage and scratches to the refitted dash. I would pay particular attention to screw covers etc and look for signs (chewed plastic) that they have been unceremoniously prised out with a screwdriver. If the job is done carefully by a competent person then you should not be able to tell. Good luck with it, I know how you feel when your new car is not as good as you first thought!

Got the car back this morning, and happy to say they have done a good job. No rattles or scratches.

All the illumination works now, including the centre console switches.

The dealer is awaiting advice from Skoda on the Columbus issues.

Good news, a big step forward in the enjoyment of the car.

Good news. Best of luck with the Columbus.

Im sure it'll be fine now, try to put it to the back of your mind and enjoy the new motor

Andyvee that's good news!

Congrats on your new new car:)

Glad to hear you've got it sorted.

Glad to hear you've got it sorted.

Almost, a couple of minor issues left but I'll keep them between me and the dealer.

I am impressed with the care they have taken, shame poor QC at the factory put them in this position in the first place.

Did 300 miles today in it, and will be doing 450 tomorrow, so glad to be back in the comfort of the Octy.
