Octavia TDI Fuel Useage

Featured Replies

This might be normal but just want to check.

The fuel gauge seems to go down quite quick (I think anyway)

I dont drive fast or thrash it thought the gear, the trip computer thingy says I'm going around 60mpg average

My average day consists of driving approx 10-12 miles to drop my partner off then drive home, then a few hours later drive to pick her up and drive home and thats about it. So I dont do mega miles.

Has anyone else noticed there fuel gauge going down quickish for a TDI or is it just me make something out of nothing?

The trip computer can be rather optimistic at times. and in all fairness your car sounds like it is doing pretty well considering the shortish journeys you are doing.  I expect the engine will be cold for at least the first 5-6 miles of your trip.

If you really wanted to keep the gauge on the right side of happy, then if your partner could drive would be to let her transport herself (I am assuming you don't need then transport yourself onto work after that and that she can drive).

I get about 600-700 miles from a tank if I am careful - but I do long twisty A-roads to work (120mile round trip), so generally see closer to 600 end of that range.

You need to work out how many miles you are actually getting per tank and calculate the mpg.

Fill it right up, drive normally and fill to the brim again and get the calculator out. If it's drinking fuel then there's a problem as they should be good economical cars.

Cheers chaps, will try any fill it to see what mpg I am doing.

The only known engine issue I have is the hot start issue I am having that I'm trying to get sorted
