Easygrip Snow Chains from Tesco for just

Featured Replies

Be careful, Skoda recommend a 6J rather than a 6.5J wheel is used with chains

Part number is 5Q0601027H from what I can find out, 6Jx16, 5x112, ET48

Seems odd that the only difference between these and the Octy II winter wheel is 2mm on the offset!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up on these Spyderjon,

Have ordered some before they go at this crazy price but hopefully mind they will sit in the boot and collect dust :giggle:

Oh you can now officially use 6Jx16 ET50 rims as well with the Octy III, which are also suitable with 205/55 winter tyres for the Octy II, Yeti and most Superb II models.

In that case I'll get some ET50 ones ordered, as the ET48 ones seem to not actually exist - Rainworths told me they had been on backorder for 3 months!

Is 8P060102703C the correct part number?

Says a pack size of 1 for the chains - I assume you get a full set of 4??

Hi,

yes 8P0 601 027 03C is correct; tend to be a tad more expensive than other VAG steel rims due to the 8P which is an Audi part number.

OK - got a better part number to use for the rims that may save me a few pennies?

Yes you get a pair of grips have a larger set for the Yeti.

Thanks, just checked it out.

Absolute madness, that is like fitting 2 winter tyres then watching your back end overtake you the first time you touch the brakes going downhill on snow or ice!

No sadly not, they cheekily only produce these Audi rims in this size :bandit:

Could have bought some when I got the Yeti but went for the cheaper and wider 7J as I was sticking to 215/60 tyres. Been handy if I'd gone with the 205 option in hindsight

Will have to sell my Yeti winters when the new Octy turns up.

I'll get someone to look them up on ETKA then for the Octy II - pretty sure there was a Skoda part no for 6Jx16 5x112 ET50

I'll get a trade price on them from TPS - might be worth a group buy :-)

Just looked on the parts 'book' and it's showing the same 8P part nimber for the Octy II

:giggle:

I'll see if I can get a decent trade price on them next week

Are these rebranded Michelin items.

Ready for collection today at the Tesco next to my place of work and a bargin at £15.27.

Think someone must have incorrectly entered the price; they are normally £70 or more :wonder:

They only have the small size for pennies!  Over £100 for S11  or 225-50-17

I have looked on Costco website, they have them for around £65-£95 depending on size, they are also advertising 2WD and 4WD sets.  Is there a difference? Do you get 4 in a 4WD set? and 2 in a 2WD set?

For short of £16 this really is a no brainer thanks tesco

Not sure but the Octy III handbook states you can only fit 'chains' to the front anyway, unlike the Yeti which can have them on the rear with 4x4 as an alternative to the front.

I see from the description that they're not machine-washable and batteries aren't included.

Whatever next?

If the situation is so bad you're using chains, you're not likely to be going at a speed where your back end is going to go zooming past.

These are rated to a max of 40kph (25mph) anyway.

Thanks, just checked it out.

It's usual to fit them to driven wheels only, so unless you have 4WD you only need 2.

Even on the Yeti I would only fit these on the front so a bit of steer is possible and stoppage, overall grip on standard tyres is good but stopping is a bit scary as I found out in Scotland last year.

Nothing to do with speed. If you have no grip at the rear going downhill on ice or snow you are in trouble .....

On a 2 wheel drive car snow chains would only be fitted to the drive axle, would this not be the same for an all wheel drive car?
