Seat belt warning light annoyance!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 2006 Octi 2 and the seat belt warning indicator flashes on quite often when driving with the belt on and fully clipped in, I sense a faulty connection somewhere, but where? Has anyone ever come across this, if so how did you sort it? If not, does anyone know of any way I can shut the bloody thing up? Disconnect something or short it out so that it thinks the belt is always plugged in! I know I'm wearing the thing, and on a long journey it gets annoying for all who are in the car!

Thanks in advance for ANY help!

Kind Regards,

Craig!

The sensor is in the seatbelt socket (where you put the seat belt clip) and only on the driver's side.

The wire runs down the stalk of the socket (inside some heat shrink) and into the ridge in the cabin where the gear stick is.

Where it goes after that I don't know.

If it is an internittent problem it does sound like a sensor or wire is broken somewhere.

Get it scanned with VCDS and that should reveal more.

Just get the warning turned off by someone with VCDS. I wouldn't bother wasting money thing to fix it.

Thanks guys! I'll ask my mate with £4000 worth of obd equipment to see if he can disable the warning, if not, I will be stripping the whole lot out on tuesday! I will report back to help others cure this problem, it can't be just mine that suffers!

Thank you again lads!

If he can't turn it off with 4k of whatever his equipment is then find someone with £250 of VCDS to do it. I did mine using VCDS and it takes literally two minutes or less.

I had this problem and ran a cable tie around the stalk and to a hole in the seat base , as you tighten the cable tie it tilts the buckle slightly forward and increases pressure on the sensor . Stalks are sometimes on E bay for around £30

Thanks Taxiranger, if all else fails I'll bear that in mind!

Cheers!

I have EXACTLY the same problem on mine, the most annoying thing in the world! :(

Please please post back when/if you find the issue, I need someone with VCDS near me to sort mine.

I had the same "dong" on the Mway this summer. It only did it on really hot days. I'm not expecting it to dong again anytime soon.

easiest way to sort this guys is to go under the drivers seat from the rear, push the seat right forward and you will see where 2 cables go under the seat into the floor.. from memory its the blue one you want to disconnect and not the yellow. im sure yellow is airbag!!! but this is all i did in my 2007 VRS as the bong was coming on/off all the time, ****ed me right off but has been fine ever since!! you do this at your own risk, ive not tested the airbag yet and hopefully wont ever have to...

Surely the easiest way is to use VCDS to turn it off rather than unplugging things under seat? (especially if you're unsure what you are unplugging!)

Yes Keith but not everyone has access to VCDS and I would guess the whole point of this post is to be able to stop the noise and light flashing the cheapest way possible with the minimal amount of fuss.

I have since read that the blue connector is the one to remove and apparently does not affect air bags or pre-tensioners as these are independent of the sensors in the seat.. the noise and light on the dash is only a warning after all.

Even after all thats said, its up to the person who wants to shut up the irritating car and due to the culture of suing that has arrived from the states my disclaimer is as follows. "I accept no responsibility if you disconnect this cable and subsequently find yourself smashed to bits after an accident because your airbags did not deploy, I havent held you to ransom and told you to unplug the blue cable so its tough"

But the OP has access to £4k of VCDS and it takes 2 minutes

Much easier than lifting seats and pulling wires :)

I'd be inclined to diagnose the problem before getting the bong switched off through vcds.

But it's an MOT fail so needs sorting at some point ;)

If what the op is talking about is what I think he's on about then I used to fix them for VAG dealers. The 4k bit of kit is called a VAS5051b or maybe a VAS5052, possibly one of the new systems even which are a Panasonic Toughbook with software loaded onto it. Either way, if it's any of these you should be able to fix it for sure

HI , I hope you got sorted , I have the same issue

Under my seat I only have one grey/pink cable that goes to the seat not the floor?

How did you get yours fixed?

Cheers

It was three years ago, either the noise got so unbearable that he drove himself and the car off a cliff or he sorted it  :D

Seriously though I personally wouldn't be permanently unclipping connectors under seats, especially as it can be simply turned off using VCDS.

Find a member with VCDS here, all you need is a few beer tokens...
