Remind me never to 'fix' anything again

Featured Replies

Rear disk stone guard had rotted around the bolts. So it was clanging around and rubbing on the disk itself.

Quick clicky around and the damn thing can't be replaced without splitting the hub.

"Cut it off", says the web

"Cut it off I shall", says I

Dremel on offer in B&Q, that'll do me.

Couple of uncomfortable hours under the car and in the wheel arch since I'm not tooled up to get the disk off.

Off it comes yay.

In the car this morning, blissful peace....

Blip, blip blip. Up come the lights. Aarrgh.

I must have bashed the magnet on the hub. There is a chunk out of it. It's pretty rotten anyway.

So a new hub going on anyway and a new stone guard since the hub is getting done.

Anyone one to buy a lightly used Dremel...only slightly jinxed

Its the joys of DIY. Some days you feel like you're unbeatable. Others you feel totally beaten

At least its an easy enough 'fix' in the long term.

I can do  most mechanical jobs on my cars, rebuild engines, rebuild whole cars but a month ago it was time for an oil change on the Audi, I couldn't even remove the plastic undertray, some of  the hex head screws are seized and rounded off. Didn't want to damage the undertray and now it's cold and wet I just don't feel like doing it.  When I get round to it the trusty Dremel will be deployed.

:giggle:  Heres hoping Long Life oil is good for a long life :giggle:

I'm sure I've said this over the course of the last two weeks

Feel your pain guys :D

I have access to one but still unable to change the filter.

I was always happy to service my own cars & enjoyed doing it too. However, as I've got older I find that I really can't be bothered & would much rather give it to my indie mechanic mate to do. For what he charges me, it's a no brainer as I can't do it much cheaper myself and don't have the hassle of disposing of used oil etc.

FP.

Ditto!!!

Used to spend entire weekends under cars as well as the odd evening, but now I would rather pay somebody else to do it.  I have more years behind me than in front and I'd rather use them elsewhere!!!

I also have far less patience than I used to have and the issues highlighted by the OP are not those I now wish to have to face! :)
