Can you beat 68.9 MPG?

Featured Replies

He he. Just a silly topic really but just wanted to brag about my first longer (2.5 hr) journey a few days ago.

Stuck the car into Eco mode. Stayed at no more than 65mph all the way and got the Mpg read out up to 68.9!!

Not bad to say the car had only done 500 miles from new. Come the summer and warmer months I think the car will easily reach the brochure posted 74mpg on a long run.

What model / engine / gearbox ?

Mine indicated 99.9 when i was soothing my baby to sleep down country roads!

2.0 TDi 150.

This was the average read out

Left local library with a warmed up engine and after ½ mile the car was showing 41mpg - after another 1½ miles with DSG in S3 it was showing 89.  Although the 1½ miles were down a steep hill in a 30mph limit and I never touched the accelerator!

Saw highest yet today. 2 mile journey, all downhill, 70.4mpg. Drove straight back to beginning of journey, 44ish.

9,000 miles in and each time the long term resets it is at about 52.5mpg.

I can beat that in one of these anytime  ;)

I wish I could get somewhere near to those figures.

1.6 elegance DSG. mostly motorway, and Fuelly is saying that 51.2 is my average over 10,000 tracked miles (car has now done 13,000)

best is 56.6mpg.

I wish I could get somewhere near to those figures.

13000 miles, already!! Gulp. In 6 months i have done 1350 miles. So really my fuel economy is better than anyones yet :giggle: . Last date I filled up with petrol? Yep, August 27th.

Blimey, I collected mine beginning of june, so not quite 6 months yet. You must almost live in your Octavia!! But having said that you have much more of right to comment on anything on the new Octavia as you have the miles to prove if it is a good car or not!!

I wish I could get somewhere near to those figures.

Maybe your display is more accurate?

Every diesel Skoda I've ever had is optimistic on the MPG display.

Sometimes by 20%+

I can, I'm sure I saw 9mpg on the way home last night.

Or have I been watching pointless too much?!

:-)

If anything the computer on my Octavia is pessimistic! the "since refuel" readout is normally around 60.5 mpg but when I calculate the consumption it is normally 62 ish. Long term fuel consumption , hasn't been reset since I've had the car ( now done 7,500 miles) is showing 60.6 mpg.

Long term resets itself every 100 hrs of driving, which is annoying!

I only get around 50 brim to brim but I do have 170ps and 350Nm to play with as compensation!

The best I can get on sensible long journeys is about 52 mpg. first 100 hour long term average 44 mpg : (

78mpg on a run to Teesside from Warrington last week at a steady 65mph. My display is about 5% optimistic so in reality 74ish mpg.

I regularly return over 70mpg on a steady run. It will still do over 60mpg when the spedd creeps up to 75-80mph on the autobahn.

That was in a 320D Efficient Dynamics. The engine is pure witchcraft.

Best I have managed on a brim to brim tank full is 57.8mpg but average over 10,300 miles and 21 fill ups so far is 52.9mpg and falling! I think the colder weather is not helping but also my average speed on open roads is also rising! Best I have managed on a single run of 200 miles or so is 66mpg back in the summer. In my cars defence, I live in hilly South Yorkshire, and my commute has been extended by over 30mins per day sitting in tram works traffic in/out of Nottingham.

I've regularly had over 70mpg indicated from my Bravo on a run down to London and back with cruise set to 70mph. That's mid to high 60s actual.

Will be interesting to see how a lighter and theoretically more efficient Octavia compares.
