Aviva - Any Good?

Featured Replies

Just sorting a new policy for the new Fabia Monte Carlo Tech that we will pick up at the weekend and am getting some pretty good quotes.

They are coming out around £200 for 2 drivers, fully comp with protected no claims.

Aviva are currently doing £84 cash back as well, so it would be around £120 for the year!

Never used Aviva before - are they any good?

I've been with Aviva for many years.  Annual premium has always been competitive.

When I retired, I informed Aviva online and it automatically refunded £10 because of the lower premium.

More recently, a neighbour's car rolled into mine when its handbrake failed.  Although my neighbour and I arranged repair privately, Aviva was very helpful throughout the procedure.  I have every confidence it would be equally helpful if I needed to claim in the future

Just be aware Aviva need to know EVERY modification to the standard car.  My car came with a space-saver spare wheel as a manufacturer-supplied option to the goo can.  I later changed the space-saver for a full-size alloy wheel & tyre identical to the other four wheels on the car.  Ever the cautious one, I contacted Aviva who told me it needed to be aware of this "modification" even though it had no effect on premium.

Hope this helps.

Also be aware that, if you use the free Ensurance that Skoda is offering at the moment, Aviva will charge you £200 for doing so! I've only found one other insurance company (Esure) that does that and that's one reason I would never use Aviva. Just my opinion though.

The Old Norwich Union Company- Aviva perfectly fine always get 3 quotes each year and for the last two year have been very competitive. In fact overall package has undercut all the main rivals.

Both me and my partner run Octavia vRS AND A Fabia vRS AND CAN'T FIND BETTER Currently.

We also get a reduction for cover joint driver on both car ,even though we don't share the same address.

We think that's pretty good.

Forgot to add ,that I mentioned then to a workmate who was reinsuring his own and his wife's car and he tried then and got a£140 saving and a better alround package than before (Direct Line)

Before you ask- No I don't work for them!!

I've been with them for three years.

Easy to deal with, and keen on price, although I've never had to make a claim.

Steve.

Rip off merchants for me. They wanted over £500 for my old car, I won't even entertain them now.

NFU are another one, they are rated the best in the industry, but at one hell of a price!

Just use a comparison engine, don't show any loyalty as Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis will tell you, you can get lower premiums by applying early that's the last few days of each month and get even lower premiums because of sales targets or use your existing company's website and get a quote from that & that can lower the premium too.

Thanks all..

Like i say, Aviva are coming out cheapest. It will basically cost me £120 to insure with them.

On what basis can they justify £200 charge?

Comparison sites are pants. Too many assumptions, too much cut from policies to become cheaper (legal cover, even loan car), and ramped up excesses.

That's before you factor in poor service in event of a claim....

On what basis can they justify £200 charge?

I expect it's because they can charge it if they want to! From the Aviva web site (and it's also in their policy booklet):

"If following a claim your vehicle needs to be repaired and you decide not to use our approved repairer then an additional excess of £200 applies. This excess will apply in addition to any other excesses under your policy. Using your own repairer may also cause delays in your claim and Aviva cannot guarantee quality of repair from your chosen repairer."

In my view, there can be no justification whatsoever. It is the owner's right to use whichever repairer they like. Aviva is just being a bullying, greedy *******.

I wouldn't say that Aviva is any better or any worse than any other company regarding claim handling. But a few minutes with a search engine shows they aren't paragons of virtue. I always look around for the best deal when insuring my cars. I have no loyalty problems. Aviva has never come anywhere close to getting my business. Too expensive. Now I've signed up for Ensurance, they have even less chance.

Who do you use then?

I've used a mix. Privilege, Direct Line, Admiral, Zurich & NFU.

NFU won't be used again after I got a £80 fine for having a blazing row with a neighbour who drove along a path at me I had to dive literally into a garden to avoid getting run over.

They said that they don't want people with Sect.5 offences on their books and that was 7 years ago & they still have the same attitude so stuff them.

The flipside of that episode was the bitch as she got known as fell foul of the law herself for going out of a one way exit & hit someone and then fell foul of her little coven of mates in the village and got evicted.  :D

So if you live in the Salisbury area watch out!

Interesting history, but who are you using now?

Direct line, they've been good so far and my policy has no voluntary excess.

Snap.

We also have the hire car plus on our policy.

Yep, me too.

And I've been swapping number plates and making some requests for documentation etc and they've been excellent in providing me with them quickly & efficiently and they only charged me £32 to amend my policy to this car.

No complaints with direct line whatsoever.

Cash back, from a cash back site is that, not direct from Aviva?

Just had a quote from the Post Office for the Citigo, they would give me at least £50 cash back on a like for like policy. They are already beating Aviva (my current insurer) by £27
