How to get the 'wet look'.

Featured Replies

Sorry if my post wasn't clear, my point was that any repeated physical contact with the paint can overtime introduce swirls.

The reason for nice plush microfibre and high quality wash mitts etc etc is to make the contact as damage free as possible. I wasn't knocking these things, far from it, they are a must in my eyes, I was saying that EVEN with good technique and good kit there is still a chance with regular washing that you will introduce some swirling. As said above often because it's so hard to guarantee a clean contact face.

If you only ever use a waterless wash spray and microfibre chances are your paintwork on close inspection will be a mess of swirls and random deep scratches.

Yup - Even someone with good intentions can get it wrong.  Sorting out someone else's "machine polishing" tomorrow on a nearly new Q7.  It's a shame this "someone else" is the owner of said Q7, so I need to be a little tactful. ;)  :D

I'd love to know what he did wrong that's causing you to have to `sort it`.

Polishing technique is a bit of a mystery to me.

Regards

Mike.

I'll find out tomorrow.  I am concerned it's burned the paint, but he just said it was "swirly" after polishing.

Not let the polish breakdown enough?

"CWIPES"!

`Burned` the paint.

Sounds like something I'd do...coz I don't know when to stop!

More difficult to do any real damage with DA Polisher Mike

Not knowing much at all about polishing and what products to use. What do people recommend with the menzerna polishes on grades to get the best shine?

Also for pads there is compounding, polishing, finishing, wool pad. which do people recommend?

I have a DAS6 dual action polisher, so not sure what I should be using on it

Wool / compounding pads are really only for use for cutting back fresh paintwork.  I used a wool pad whilst I was wet & drying my porker 924. :)   Never had a need or reason to use it during "normal" polishing. :)

Thats brilliant many thanks! That link you sent me looks fantastic and all the info I need :)

True.. .its just one big vicious circle. . .polish it up ect. . .wash it regular to keep it clean. . And in cleaning it so often put swirls back onto it :(

Snow foam is a big help as a pre wash to get all the surface dust/dirt off the paint so ya not just rubbing it into the paint with the mitt.

The menzerna polishes I have are all numbered like sand paper. . . .the higher the number the finer cut it is. Ect ect
