side windows

Featured Replies

Now its colder in the morning...

I go out to my car, get in start the engine.

It's not frosty, but there is condensation all over the outside of the car.

Flick the wipers front and rear, job done.

flick the driver and passenger window down then up, to wipe away the condensa..  oh, it's all still there, save for a 3" stripe on the passenger side. Can't see out of side windows.

Now the easy fix is get out and wipe, but I've done the above with all my previous cars.

Shouldn't the seals be touching the windows? They're not... and is this why water runs off the sills when I open my doors after rain?? (others comment on this)

Anyone else find this?

If you can get it up to a good 80mph for around 10 seconds before reaching the end of the road most of it will blow off!

Seriously though, the little felt strip worked a treat on my MkII Octy and also works well on my Superb.

If its touching the glass enough to clear a 3 inch strip then I'd say something is a miss...

Yep, side window seal only wipes a small 1-2" area of water off when going down & up.... not good.

I've got 300yds to the first junction and it's a 1.2tsi. Don't think I'll make it!

Yep, exactly the same here. Pita. Also if you're daft enough the leave the window open so you can see and touch the brakes all the water on the roof cascades onto your lap.

Does no one test these things??

Snap!

I now do the windows down and back up before pulling away, but also find they don't really clear off. I wasn't a quick learner, I think I got the full soaking at least 3 times before it clicked :)

I am also amazed at the amount of water the roof holds, when I drive off it can be a mile before it stops streaming off the hatch.

Same here, all other cars I remember clear the side windows by opening them - now have to wipe them before setting off or open windows at the first few junctions/roundabouts if I forget.

perhaps this is just a consequence of saving space (for making the door shallower)?

Now whey should make the side windows heated, too!

Mine is the same. Just checked, at least the seal is tight at closed position.

Same here, my mkII was the same, it's no big deal.

I've had mine back to the dealer with the doors holding water, they adjusted the seals which they said were blocking the drain holes. Passenger side seems better but drivers side still no better. Problem only seems to occur when car parked on slope facing downhill, ie like on my drive so every morning after rain or after washing!

Well at least it sounds that the seals aren't incorrectly positioned - as they're all like it.

I can't be bothered complaining about the sills holding water at the moment, as I've already had the car off the road for 2-3 weeks with passenger door build fault and rear door damage inflicted by 6 yr old son.

Ehm, might I suggest you reverse into the driveway so you're facing uphill? :giggle:
