Service indicator and suitable oil

Featured Replies

(Two rather dull questions I'm afraid, but I'd be grateful in anyone could help me out :) )

1) Is the service indicator in my 2005 Octavia in anyway smart, such that it detects how clean the oil is, or is it just a mileage trigger? I assume it is the latter, right? I ask as my car is on fixed (10k) service intervals, and it's currently showing that a service is due in 300 miles which would be at 93,624 miles, whilst 10,000 miles from the last service would be 94,232 miles.

2) How much oil will my 1.9 TDI (BKC) need for a full oil change? I think the following is the right type, and presumably 5L is enough, right?

Thanks.

You need 5.5Lts if your changing the filter as well.

I think the interval is 15000 kilometres In the service manual which is only 9320 miles.

Most likely that accounts for the discrepancy.

this!

Most of the variable service algorithms are based in mileage and the number of cold starts.  For a car started twice a day, 18,000 miles is normal.

thats great however he clearly states he is on fixed servicing.

Thanks - I'm sure that's it. The service manual says "Every 15,000 km (10,000 miles)", I've never thought to check the conversion!

Is this definitely right? Checking my last service a Skoda main dealer only charged me for 5L, and this thread suggest less oil might be needed?
