Bulb failure icon alight

Featured Replies

The yellow bulb failure light has started coming on in my '62' reg car.

I have checked all the bulbs I'm aware of, but can't see any that have failed.

Is this a common fault on this car or is there something I'm missing? Any help please?

I used to get this problem on a previous Octavia after I washed the car, the next day the bulb out light would come on then go off the next day. After about a month the nearside side light bulb failed, when I replaced it the problem went away, so you probably have a dodgy lamp or a bad connection.

The system monitors the resistance across all of the lamps, so a blown lamp reduces the overall resistance.

which bulbs have you checked. Make a list as we might be able to tell you ones you missed.

Front to back:

dipped beam

main beam

indicator front

DRL

Fog

Indicator in mirror

Front interior light x 3

rear interior light

Front Door lights (1 per front door)

Boot Light (x2)

Rear side lights (2 x w4w bulbs per cluster)

Rear side light/brake light

reversing lights

rear side/fog lights

Dont think i've missed any

had same problem with mine last week, check all the bulbs by looking at the filment - nothing wrong. then I checked them with a continuity tester and foud a rear light blown but it still looked OK

In actual fact a blown bulb would increase the resistance not decrease :-)

Certain lights are not on the diagnostic system.

Thanks everyone for your help. Will go through all the checks later on today.

Try getting a VCDS reading, it may well show which bulb is failing.

My mate was tearing his hair out as the blown bulb indicator was on all the time , he checked them a dozen times taking them all out and finding they were all working changing the ones he thought were dodgy :wall:

In the end he took it to a garage and they changed the high brake bulb , problem solved.

  Easily overlooked :giggle:

Hi Bubbles, what is a VCDS please?

It's the diagnostic/configuration device that plugs into your cars diagnostics socket.

Check out the diagnostics and vcds forum at :-

It gives info on what it is, and you may also be able to find somebody locally that can help you out.

Cheers

Similar issue, the fault turned out to be ONE of the number plate lamps. not obvious and not something you might think of to check!
